Job Title:
Cook Job Description This role prepares, portions, and cooks a variety of food items accurately and efficiently in a high-volume kitchen setting. You will follow recipes and product directions, support a la carte service and grill operations, and help ensure that all food meets quality, safety, and presentation standards. Responsibilities Accurately prepare, portion, and cook a wide range of food items according to established standards. Read, interpret, and follow basic recipes and product directions to ensure consistency and quality. Prepare food and serve customers at an a la carte station, providing friendly and efficient service. Operate and maintain a grill station, including cooking to order and managing multiple tickets at once. Assist with all aspects of food production, including prep work, cooking, plating, and replenishment. Support the manager with daily kitchen operations to ensure smooth and efficient service. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in compliance with food safety and sanitation standards. Coordinate with other kitchen staff to ensure timely preparation and delivery of menu items. Monitor food levels and communicate needs for replenishment or prep to avoid service interruptions. Follow all health, safety, and hygiene guidelines in a hospital cafeteria environment. Essential Skills At least 2 years of experience working in a high-producing kitchen environment. Proficiency in food preparation, including chopping, measuring, and portioning ingredients. Ability to read and follow recipes and product directions accurately. Experience as a line cook or in a similar food production role. Strong cooking skills across a variety of menu items and preparation methods. Steady and reliable work history demonstrating commitment and dependability. Knowledge of basic foodservice and hospitality practices. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen. Additional Skills & Qualifications Culinary school is a strong plus. Experience working in a hospital or cafeteria setting is beneficial. Capability to assist with baking or pastry preparation is an advantage. Strong teamwork and communication skills with kitchen and service staff. Attention to detail in food quality, presentation, and portion control. Ability to multitask and manage time effectively during busy service periods. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based in a hospital cafeteria environment, supporting patient, staff, and visitor dining. The kitchen operates in a high-volume setting with multiple stations, including a la carte and grill service. There are multiple positions available with varied schedules that may include weekends. You will work with standard commercial kitchen equipment and follow strict food safety, sanitation, and cleanliness standards appropriate for a healthcare facility. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Whittier, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $23.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
