This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working both behind the scenes in a production kitchen and onsite at catered events. During kitchen shifts, you will assist our culinary team with food preparation and production. During events, you will serve as a Back Captain, overseeing the onsite kitchen, coordinating food execution, and ensuring each course or buffet is ready and served according to the event timeline. Because our event schedule varies, candidates must have flexible availability, including some early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Prep Cook Responsibilities Prepare ingredients and menu items according to recipes, production sheets, and chef direction Wash, cut, portion, season, and properly store food Assist with hot and cold food production Follow proper food safety, sanitation, labeling, and storage procedures Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area Help package, label, and organize food for upcoming events Review production quantities and communicate shortages or concerns Assist with loading food, supplies, and equipment when needed Complete prep assignments accurately and within the required timeline Back Captain Responsibilities Review the Banquet Event Order before departing for each event Participate in event loading and confirm all food and kitchen equipment are accounted for Lead the setup and organization of the onsite catering kitchen Coordinate with the Event Captain, chef, and service team throughout the event Manage food timing, heating, holding, plating, buffet replenishment, and presentation Conduct or participate in the onsite pre-shift meeting Maintain food quality, proper temperatures, sanitation, and safe handling standards Direct kitchen assistants and event culinary staff when assigned Communicate changes, shortages, dietary needs, and timing concerns immediately Oversee the breakdown, packing, and return of food and kitchen equipment Complete event reports and communicate any issues following the event Qualifications At least one year of professional kitchen, catering, banquet, or restaurant experience preferred Previous catering or event leadership experience strongly preferred Ability to read and follow recipes, production sheets, and BEOs Strong understanding of food safety and sanitation Excellent organization, communication, and time-management skills Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment Dependable, punctual, professional, and team-oriented Comfortable taking direction while also leading others onsite ServSafe or food-handler certification preferred Valid driver's license and reliable transportation preferred Physical Requirements Ability to stand and work for extended periods Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds Ability to bend, reach, push, pull, and safely move catering equipment Ability to work in hot kitchens, outdoor venues, and varying event environments Schedule This is a part-time position with hours based on production and event needs. Shifts may include weekdays, early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Weekly hours may vary depending on the event schedule. Compensation Hourly pay based on experience.
