Job Description

Cook - Christian Childcare Center Kids Kare Center | Full-Time (40 hours/week) Monday-Friday | Five 8-hour shifts | No evenings or weekends Serve Children. Share Your Faith. Make a Difference. Kids Kare Center is a Christ-centered childcare ministry seeking a dependable, organized, and caring Cook who desires to work in a Christian environment and positively impact the lives of children and families. This position is ideal for someone who sees hospitality and service as a ministry, enjoys preparing nutritious meals, and wants to be part of a team that shares Christian values. As a member of our staff, you will help create a warm, nurturing environment where children are cared for physically, emotionally, and spiritually. We are looking for a reliable team member who can faithfully support our mission, uphold our Christian beliefs, and model Christian character in their daily work. Position Overview As the Cook, you will prepare and serve meals and snacks for the children in our center, ensuring they receive nutritious food that supports their growth and learning. Following approved menus, you will work closely with our teachers and Leadership Team to ensure compliance with all state regulations regarding food preparation, storage, allergy management, sanitation, and serving requirements. You will also help manage food inventory, monitor supplies, and contribute to the overall success of the center through teamwork and a servant-hearted attitude. Responsibilities Prepare and serve breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snacks for all classrooms according to approved menus Ensure appropriate serving sizes and serving materials for varying age groups Maintain kitchen facilities and equipment according to ServSafe, Rule 3, and state requirements Wash, sanitize, and properly store dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment throughout the day Monitor food inventory and communicate ordering needs to the Assistant Director Maintain accurate inventory records for pantry, refrigerator, and freezer items Assist with food ordering and supply management Rotate stock to prevent spoilage and ensure proper food safety practices Label opened food products with appropriate dates and expiration information Follow all allergy protocols and prevent food cross-contamination Collaborate with teachers and leadership to support children's nutritional and safety needs Assist with other center duties as needed Serve as a backup classroom aide when necessary Required Qualifications Must be at least 18 years of age Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards of quality, cleanliness, and food safety Strong communication skills and a friendly, team-oriented demeanor Ability to follow menus and prepare sufficient quantities of food for the center population Basic computer and math skills Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English to communicate effectively with staff, children, and families Ability to stoop, bend, lift up to 60 pounds, and stand or walk for up to 95% of the workday Ability to work in both humid and cold conditions with varying temperatures Present a neat, professional, and clean appearance Must pass all required background checks and comply with health and safety regulations Ability to obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid certification Ability to complete and maintain all required Minnesota DHS childcare training requirements Complete required annual staff development activities, in-service training, and workshops Preferred Qualifications At least one year of institutional, school, childcare, or commercial cooking experience Food ordering and inventory management experience Two or more years of experience working with children Knowledge of food allergies, special dietary needs, and cross-contamination prevention Current ServSafe certification or willingness to obtain certification within 90 days of employment Faith Commitment Kids Kare Center is a ministry of Harbor Church.
