Catering cook's responsibilities include: Food preparation: Preparing and cooking food for events, receptions, and retail operations Food presentation: Garnishing and decorating food to make it visually appealing Kitchen maintenance: Cleaning the kitchen, food storage areas, utensils, and equipment
Sanitation:
Maintaining health and safety standards for food storage, preparation, and kitchen safety Equipment operation: Using food preparation equipment such as mixers, ovens, choppers, and steamers Food storage: Storing food properly in refrigerators, freezers, and storerooms Dietary requirements: Meeting special dietary requirements
Extra Duties:
Assisting the café when needed and helping catering manager with deliveries Some skills and qualifications that are useful for catering cooks include: Ability to lift and transport a minimum of 30 pounds Ability to work in a fast-paced, strenuous environment Ability to handle exposure to changing temperatures Ability to stand on one's feet for extended periods of time Ability to read and measure recipes Basic knife skills Knowledge of weights and measures Basic understanding of cooking techniques Food Handlers Certificate a plus
