Catering Chef / Culinary Leadership Job Summary Much Ado Catering is the Catering Department under Davidson Dining Services . During the academic year, our dining locations operate seven days a week serving three meals a day for the students, guests, staff, and faculty of Davidson College . We are seeking a reliable, efficient, and skilled Catering Cook to join our team on an on-call basis. In this role, you will focus on high-volume batch cooking, event prep, and live-event culinary execution while maintaining exceptional food quality and strict safety standards. This flexible position is perfect for culinary professionals looking for supplemental hours in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities 1.
Culinary Preparation & Batch Cooking Daily Prep:
Execute daily meal preparation, ingredient staging, and shift production based on event sheets and recipes.
Batch Cooking:
Skilled in batch cooking and maintaining high food quality and safety standards.
Menu Execution:
Prepare assigned dishes, including appetizers, hors d'oeuvres, entrées, salads, soups, and basic bakery items.
Product Management:
Pull necessary products from inventory, ensure proper thawing/rotation, and minimize food waste. 2.
Event Execution & Presentation Display Cooking:
Perform action-station or display cooking directly in front of guests during live events when required, must understand that proper appearance and presentation is required when client facing.
Plating & Garnishing:
Handle high-volume plating, tray passes, and buffet presentation to ensure visual appeal for VIP guests.
Cross-Departmental Support:
Assist in production or culinary execution in other Dining Services locations based on broader business needs. You will report to Much Ado Catering, but we operate under Davidson Dining Services and help other units as needed. 3.
Maintain proper storage, labeling, and safe handling of all food products in compliance with local health regulations and college policies. Must pass NC Food Handler course within 30 days of start date.
Kitchen Upkeep:
Assist with station teardown, workspace sanitization, and organizational maintenance of the catering kitchen and pantries.
Must pass AllerTrain U Allergen Training within first 30 days of start date.
Qualifications & Requirements Experience:
Prior experience in professional cooking, ideally in a catering, banquet, or high-volume hospitality environment.
Skills:
Strong knife skills, familiarity with various cooking techniques, and the ability to accurately follow recipes.
Pace & Detail:
Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail .
Flexibility:
Availability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and early mornings depending on scheduled campus events. This position is flexible so open availability is not required but 2-3 shifts a week is preferred.
Teamwork:
Strong communication and customer service skills, with a focus on delivering exceptional service tailored to client needs.
Working Conditions Physical Demands:
Must be able to lift/push/pull/ carry a minimum of 25 pounds or more. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time. Must be capable of performing repetitive motions, bending, reaching.

Uniform Requirement:
