JOB DESCRIPTION
COOK Position summary: The Cook is responsible for cooking and preparing food according to recipes and production guidelines while adhering to food safety, food handling, and sanitation procedures. The Cook should safely handle equipment such as grills, fryers, ovens, Cook- Chill, Kettle and etc. Essential functions and responsibilities of the position may vary by location based on client requirements and business needs. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Cooks and prepare a variety of food according to production guidelines and standardized recipes
  • Sets up workstation with all needed ingredients and equipment
  • Prepares ingredients by measuring, weighing, mixing, chopping, trimming, and peeling food items
  • Safely utilizes a variety of utensils including knives
  • Operates equipment such as ovens, stoves, slicers, mixers, etc.
  • Bakes, roasts, broils, steams, and uses a variety of cooking methods on meat, vegetables, and other foods
  • Arranges, garnishes, and portions food according to established guidelines
  • Properly stores food by adhering to food safety policies and procedures
  • Cleans and sanitizes work areas, equipment, and utensils
  • Maintains excellent customer service and positive attitude towards guest, customers, clients, co-workers, etc.
  • Adheres to GD Correctional safety policies and procedures including proper food safety and sanitation.
  • Ensures security of company assets
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned by manager
  • Requires frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling of up to 25 lbs.
  • Requires constant standing/walking
  • Maintain security clearance Reports to: Food Service Director / Assistant Food Service Director Qualifications
  • Experience as a cook or in a related role required
  • Proven knowledge of the basic principles of food preparation, various cooking methods, and food safety regulations such as proper food handling, sanitation, and storage
  • ServSafe® Certification a Plus
  • Demonstrates basic math and counting skills
  • Demonstrates interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Acquire Culinary Skills, in a fast-paced work environment, with flexible hours
  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • Maintain a safe, sanitary work environment, which conforms to all standards and regulations.
Performing general physical activities : Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms, legs and moving your whole body, such as pushing, pulling, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling of materials. The work is often strenuous, workers may stand for hours at a time while cleaning or preparing. Some may be required to lift and carry heavy objects, load and unload heavy objects, up to and not excluding 25 lbs. and / or more. Working conditions (may add additional conditions specific to defined work location): Generally, in an indoor setting; however, may supervise outside activities and events. Varying schedule to include evenings, holidays, weekends and extended hours as business dictates. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is primarily in a controlled, temperate environment; however, may be exposed to heat/cold during support of inside activities. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
