JOB SUMMARY

The Cook plays a vital role in supporting the mission of Wallowa County Health Care District to provide premier healthcare by preparing high-quality meals for patients, employees and visitors. As a representative of the patient experience, this position requires professionalism, attention to detail and a strong commitment to excellent customer service. The Cook is responsible for preparing a variety of foods, including meats, fish, poultry, vegetables, potatoes, rice, pastas, soups, sauces, casseroles, sandwiches, desserts and baked goods according to the current posted menu for hospital patients, the employee/visitor cafeteria and in-house catered events. Knowledge of therapeutic diets is essential to ensure meals are prepared according to dietary guidelines, approved recipes and physician-ordered diet requirements.

Responsibilities Include:

Preparing breakfast, lunch and dinner for hospital patients according to approved menus, recipes and meal tallies Ensuring therapeutic recipes and dietary guidelines are followed for special diets, including diabetic, low sodium, renal, cardiac, low fat and texture-modified diets Preparing hot and cold foods for the employee/visitor cafeteria and assisting with in-house catered events Using proper measurements, portion control, serving utensils and garnishing to ensure quality and appealing meal presentation Operating cooking equipment and kitchen utensils safely and maintaining equipment and work areas in a high degree of cleanliness Supporting tray line operations and assembling patient meal trays Following food safety guidelines, including proper food handling, storage, dating and temperature monitoring Assisting with food service operations, deliveries, stocking and other departmental duties as needed Providing technical guidance to Diet Aides, Cafeteria Aides and Dishwashers in the absence of the Food Service Supervisor Providing courteous and respectful service to patients, visitors and staff Adhering to all safety, infection control and confidentiality standards. QUALIFICATIONS

Current Food Handler's Card required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire One year of experience as a cook preferred Ability to read, write and follow written and oral instructions Ability to calculate recipes and prepare proper amounts as needed Basic computer skills, including operating the cafeteria point-of-sale system, checking email and a basic understanding of Word and Excel applications Ability to communicate effectively with the Food Service Supervisor and other Food Service employees Demonstrated ability to provide compassionate, patient-centered care across diverse populations Ability to meet the physical and functional requirements outlined in the job description High School Diploma or equivalent preferred

Must successfully pass a criminal background check and reference checks
