Job Description

General Description of the position: The Cook is responsible for the preparation and service of nutritious meals. The Cook is also responsible for the supervision of all food service personnel in the absence of the Director of Food Service.
Essential functions:
Prepares and serves meals according to work schedule. Relieves cooking and supervisory duties of the food service director on his/her days off. Notes menu changes, lists substitutes and makes menu suggestions on form if food service director is absent. Interact with residents to ensure meal satisfaction. Adhere to safety and sanitary guidelines. Prepare special diet items for residents as needed. Recycle. Practice and maintain proper food storage and safe food handling. Maintain good hygiene. Maintains standards put forth in the Employee Manual Supervises the proper storage and labeling of all usable leftovers. Maintains cleanliness of both the kitchen and dining room areas. May assist in the orientation and training of new staff. Stocks shelves with delivered food and supplies. Perform other duties as assigned.
Working conditions:
Sitting/Standing:
up to 8 hours Lifting requirements: up to 50 lbs. 
Driving:
may have to drive for food purchases or any miscellaneous items. Bending to clean. Pushing heavy objects. Knowledge, skills and abilities required : Must have excellent communication skills both written and verbal, with Residents, their families and staff. Equipment used : Occasional tasks may require the use of (but not limited to) knives, commercial dishwasher, manual and electric tools, slicers, commercial steamer, convection oven, standard gas or electric range and grill, mixer/grinder, commercial dishwasher and cooking utensils.
Qualifications:
A genuine concern for the elderly. Must perform excellent customer service skills Ability to lead and motivate people. Capable of making mature judgments. Remain drug free. Well groomed. Telephone answering skills. Interpersonal relationship skills. Oral and written communication skills Ability to manage and prioritize a large work load. Ability to maintain confidential information. Dependable. Must have a Oregon food handler's permit. Must have First Aid Training Certificate. Must have abdominal thrust training. Have knowledge of special diets including low sodium, low cholesterol, diabetic and vegetarian. Has experience in handling and operating kitchen equipment, commercial steamer, convection oven, standard gas or electric range and grill, meat slicer, mixer/grinder, commercial dishwasher, cooking utensils.

$16.00 - $19.00 per hour
