Human Resources, 10 Deisher Lane, Kutztown, PA 19530 The Kutztown Area School District is seeking a full-time Head Cook at Kutztown Middle school to start the 2026-2027 school year. The Head Cook provides safe and appealing meals and perform any duties associated with the food services department. The position is 10 months per year, approximately 32.5 hours per week with benefits and retirement. This includes medical, dental, vision insurance and state retirement.

QUALIFICATIONS
Food services background preferred; High School Diploma or higher preferred
Certification:
Health and Criminal background clearances as required; Servsafe (or equivalent and acceptable) certification and managerial qualities
RESPONSIBILITIES
: Organize kitchen operations Prepare and Cook food for daily lunch service Delegate food preparation and cleaning duties as needed Prepare deliveries for outlying buildings Maintain food safety and regulation compliance continuously Supervise staff in a professional manner Assist in the training of food service personnel as needed Schedule staff according to need and payroll requirements Turn in timesheets/cards in a timely manner Assure safety and sanitary kitchen environment continuously Report all disciplinary or performance issues to Supervisor of Food Service Prepare orders as necessary Communicate with the Supervisor of Food Service in a timely manner for weekly delivery of necessary food and supplies Secondary supplier's (dairies, bakery,...) requisitions should be ordered as needed for daily lunch service Smallware requisitions should be placed through the Supervisor of Food Service
KITCHEN MANAGEMENT
Assist in inventory management as needed Maintain production records on a daily basis Maintain event record for use by Supervisor of Food Service Perform all other record-keeping as required Report necessary maintenance on equipment to the Supervisor of Food Service Other duties as assigned by Supervisor of Food Service

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, staff, faculty and administration Possess good interpersonal skills using tact and diplomacy Willingness to work as a "team player" with co-workers Ability to take direction and accept constructive criticism Working knowledge of kitchen equipment, operations, applicable health codes and basic sanitation
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be able to work while standing for long periods of time (up to eight hours) Ability to reach above and below the waist. Ability to use fingers to pick, feel, and grasp objects. Ability to use both hands for repetitive motion. Some bending and twisting of the body required. Must be able to lift 30lbs. Must have the ability to work in a hot and humid environment Ability to mostly walk or move throughout the work environment.

Visual acuity and auditory acuity.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Typical school environment. Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
TEMPERAMENT
Must possess excellent interpersonal skills. Must be cooperative, congenial, and service oriented. Must be able to work in an environment with frequent interruptions.

SALARY :
$15.38 - $17.59 per hour based upon experience
STARTING DATE
: 2026-2027 School Year (Limited hourly work in August 2026 with full-time work beginning August 25, 2026)
