Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of Food Service Manager, the Cook position is responsible for the production and service of the daily menu. The Cook will utilize established procedures and standardized recipes while observing the highest standards of sanitation, safety and quality assurance. Will be responsible for dishwashing as well.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintains a clean and orderly workspace in accordance with the food safety guidelines. Knows the principles of and correctly performs basic culinary skills to do with all food preparation. Follows recipes and HAACP guidelines to ensure resident dietary restrictions. Always observes the highest standards of safety in performing tasks, especially those involving wet floors; cutting, slicing and chopping equipment; stoves, ovens, steamers, and grills; and cleaning chemicals. Has complete understanding of the principles of, and consistently practices, safe food handling procedures to reduce/prevent any incidence of foodborne illness. Helps problem solve food issues and kitchen problems in an accurate and timely manner. Receive vendor deliveries. Date, rotate and properly store any incoming products. Assist in the ordering process, by informing the Chef Supervisor/Manager of items that are required or out of stock and may be called upon to place some orders directly. Monitors and maintains all required logs, receiving logs, daily temperature logs, cooling logs, reheating logs, refrigerator, and freezer logs. Maintains a presentable and clean personal appearance in accordance with food safety regulations and Uniform Policy. Washes all wares including pots, pans, flatware. Maintains a clean and orderly dish area. Correctly places and stores clean equipment, dishes, and utensils in assigned storage areas. Complete understanding of using and cleaning dishwasher thoroughly and record keeping of dishwasher logs. Serves residents, guests, and others in a professional and pleasant manner. Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
Required Skills & Abilities:
Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to prioritize tasks and meet project deadlines. Proficiency with MS Office Suite or similar software. Dependable and punctual with ability to maintain consistent attendance. Ability to read, write and comprehend English. Ability to maintain sound judgement under stress and communicate effectively. Ability to research and analyze data, draw conclusions, and resolve issues. Ability to read, interpret, and apply policies, procedures, laws, and regulations. Ability to proficiently perform skilled tasks associated within scope of position. Ability to adhere to food safety protocols. Operates equipment such as ovens, stoves, slicers, mixers, etc. Demonstrates ability to bake, roast, broil, steam and uses a variety of cooking methods on meat, vegetables, and other foods.
Physical Requirements:
Physical ability to regularly stoop, bend, kneel, lift, stand, walk, stretch, and reach for extended periods of time. Must be able to regularly lift objects up to 50 lbs. Must be able to navigate various departments of the organization's physical premises as well as related community care settings. Must be able to tolerate physical requirements of working in a kitchen setting.
Experience:
1-3 years of relevant kitchen experience, Preferred Serv Safe Certified, Preferred 1 year of experience working with a frail or elderly population,
Preferred License & Certification Requirements:
RI Food Safety Manager License, Required Education Requirements:
High School Diploma or Equivalent, Required Position Requirements:
Experience as a cook or in a related role required Proven knowledge of the basic principles of food preparation, various cooking methods, and food safety regulations such as proper food handling, sanitation, and storage.
Pay:
$20.00 - $21.00 per hour
