Description The Center on Aging and Health in Erwin is seeking a dedicated Cook to join our team in a full-time, on-site role within our hospital/health care facility. This entry-level position offers an excellent opportunity for culinary professionals who are passionate about preparing nutritious, high-quality meals that support the health and well-being of our patients and residents. As a Cook, you will play a vital role in our dietary services department, preparing meals that meet both nutritional standards and dietary requirements. Your work directly contributes to the comfort and recovery of those we serve, making this a meaningful position within our health care community. This is an ideal opportunity for someone beginning their culinary career in a health care setting. Responsibilities Prepare and cook meals according to established recipes, menus, and dietary guidelines Ensure all food is prepared in compliance with health, safety, and sanitation standards Assist with menu planning and portion control to meet nutritional requirements Coordinate food preparation schedules to ensure timely meal service Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment Monitor food inventory and communicate supply needs to supervisors Follow special dietary restrictions and modifications as directed by dietary staff Properly store food items and manage leftovers according to safety protocols Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently Collaborate with dietary and nursing staff to meet resident needs Requirements High school diploma or equivalent Previous culinary or food service experience preferred but not required Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices Ability to follow recipes and dietary guidelines accurately Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Ability to work effectively as part of a team Good communication and interpersonal skills Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 pounds Food handler's certification or willingness to obtain upon hire Flexibility to work various shifts including weekends and holidays as needed
