Job Description

Position Title Cook (Live-In) - Hospice Residence Facility Employment Type Full-Time Live-In Position Weekend and holiday availability may be required Location Livingston Manor Facility Livingston, Texas Job Summary The Live-In Cook is responsible for planning, preparing, and serving nutritious meals and snacks for hospice residents while maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary kitchen environment. The ideal candidate will understand the importance of individualized care and demonstrate kindness, patience, and respect toward residents, families, and staff. Essential Job Duties Prepare and serve breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks according to scheduled meal times. Develop menus that meet residents' nutritional needs and dietary restrictions. Modify food consistency and texture as directed by nursing staff or physician orders. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the kitchen, food preparation areas, and dining areas. Ensure proper food storage, labeling, and inventory management. Order groceries and kitchen supplies within established budgets. Monitor food temperatures and follow all food safety guidelines. Work collaboratively with nursing and administrative staff regarding residents' dietary needs and preferences. Assist in creating a welcoming dining experience for residents and visitors. Adhere to all facility policies, infection control practices, and state regulations. Maintain confidentiality and resident dignity at all times. Participate in emergency preparedness procedures as needed. Qualifications Previous experience as a cook in a healthcare setting, assisted living, nursing home, hospice, or similar environment preferred. Knowledge of food safety, sanitation standards, and proper food handling procedures. Ability to prepare meals for individuals with special dietary needs. Excellent organizational and time-management skills. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated compassion, patience, and sensitivity toward hospice patients and their families. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Reliable, dependable, and flexible with scheduling requirements.
Education & Experience Required:
High school diploma or equivalent (GED). Minimum of one (1) year of cooking experience in a professional setting.
Preferred:
Experience in hospice, long-term care, assisted living, or healthcare food services. Food Handler's Permit or ServSafe Certification. Training in nutrition for elderly or medically fragile populations. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds. Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and perform routine kitchen duties safely. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
