Stepping Heritage School also supports community members by offering volunteer training and providing volunteering letters for placement and educational requirements, which is ideal for students seeking to gain practical experience. 4o We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Infant / Preschool /School Age Teacher to join our educational team. The ideal candidate will create a nurturing and stimulating environment for young children, fostering their social, emotional, and cognitive development. This role involves implementing age-appropriate curricula, engaging children in meaningful activities, and collaborating with parents to support each child's growth. Duties Develop and implement lesson plans that align with early childhood education standards. Create a safe, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment that encourages exploration and learning. Monitor and assess children's progress, adjusting teaching strategies to meet individual needs. Facilitate daily activities such as arts and crafts, storytelling, music, and outdoor play. Communicate regularly with parents about their child's development and classroom activities. Collaborate with other staff members to ensure a cohesive educational experience. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the classroom while adhering to food safety standards during meal preparation. Assist in menu planning and meal preparation for children, ensuring dietary needs are met. Responsibilities of a Cook in a Daycare Meal Planning and Preparation Develop and prepare nutritious, balanced, and age-appropriate meals and snacks for children. Ensure meals meet dietary requirements and any specific nutritional needs of children. Dietary Accommodations Manage and accommodate food allergies and dietary restrictions (e.g., gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian). Work closely with staff to understand individual dietary needs and preferences. Food Safety and Sanitation Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, adhering to strict health and safety guidelines. Follow safe food handling practices, including proper storage, cooking temperatures, and labeling. Menu Planning and Inventory Management Plan weekly or monthly menus that introduce variety and ensure a balanced diet. Manage food inventory, order supplies, and maintain a budget. Portion Control and Serving Prepare and serve meals in portions appropriate for young children, considering different age groups. Support teachers with meal distribution and ensure children are comfortable and enjoy mealtimes. Collaboration with Staff and Parents Work closely with daycare staff to coordinate meal times and address any food-related concerns. Communicate with parents regarding any dietary needs or updates to the menu. Kitchen Maintenance Regularly clean and sanitize all kitchen equipment and surfaces. Perform routine checks on kitchen appliances and report any issues or maintenance needs. Record Keeping Maintain accurate records of meals served, ingredients used, and inventory. Document any food allergies, dietary changes, or special meal requests. Adapting to Children's Preferences Create child-friendly meals that are both nutritious and appealing. Experiment with new recipes to incorporate more variety and make healthy eating enjoyable for children. Regulation Compliance Ensure all food preparation and handling complies with local childcare and health regulations. Stay updated on relevant food safety and daycare dietary guidelines. These responsibilities contribute to a safe, nourishing, and enjoyable dining experience for children, supporting their health and growth within a daycare setting. Experience Previous experience in a preschool or early childhood education setting is preferred. Familiarity with food handling practices and safety regulations is beneficial. Skills in meal preparation, menu planning, or catering are a plus. A background in the food industry or as a dietary aide can enhance the ability to manage snack times effectively. Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with parents and staff are essential. A genuine love for working with young children and an understanding of their developmental needs is crucial for success in this role.
