Summary/Objective The line cook is responsible for preparing the food to be served, complying with all applicable sanitation, health and personal hygiene standards and following established food production programs and procedures. The line cook is responsible for appropriate use of facility supplies and equipment to minimize loss, waste and fraud. Essential Functions Prepares the food served using established production procedures and systems. Determines amount and type of food and supplies required using production systems. Ensures proper serving of food for tray line or dining room. Complies with established sanitation standards, personal hygiene and health standards. Observes proper food preparation and handling techniques. Stores food properly and safely, marking the date and item. Reports necessary equipment repair and maintenance to supervisor. Correctly prepares all food served following standard recipes and special diet orders. Plans food production to coordinate with meal serving hours so that excellence, quality, temperature and appearance of food are preserved. Apportions food for serving. Keeps work area neat and clean at all times; cleans and maintains equipment used in food preparation. Completes food temperature checks before service. Competencies Collaboration Skills. Work Environment This job operates in the kitchen and may be working in close proximity to co-workers. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. Hazards may include, but are not limited to, cuts, burns, slipping and tripping. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Walk and stand during entire shift. Continuously reach, bend, lift, carry, stoop and wipe. Remain stationary for long periods of time. Frequently wash hands. Be able to lift up to 45 lbs. Be able to manipulate fingers, hands and arms to cut, measure, pour, serve, carry and wipe. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This position regularly requires long hours and frequent weekend work. Travel No travel is expected for this position. Required Education and Experience High School Diploma. Minimum of 2-3 years' experience working in a restaurant kitchen. ServSafe Certification preferred, but not required. Communication and interpersonal skills. Willingness to work during peak hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Ability to walk, stand, and occasionally carry heavy items in a fast-paced, stressful environment. Additional Eligibility Qualifications Must be eligible for and maintain SIDA badge required to work in airport. Work Authorization Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
