Part-Time Cook (25-30 Hours Per Week) Whispering Willows Academy Olympia, WA Join Our Team! Whispering Willows Academy is looking for a dependable, organized, and caring Part-Time Cook to join our team. This position plays an essential role in supporting the health, growth, and well-being of more than 100 children by preparing nutritious, high-quality meals and snacks each day. Our cook is an important part of our program, helping create a positive mealtime experience while ensuring all meals meet federal nutrition guidelines and maintaining a clean, safe, and organized kitchen.
Schedule Part-Time:
25-30 hours per week Monday-Friday Hours may vary based on program needs Responsibilities As our Cook, you will: Prepare and serve breakfast, lunch, and two daily snacks for children and staff. Follow USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) meal pattern requirements. Maintain accurate CACFP records and meal documentation. Follow Washington State DCYF licensing regulations and food safety standards. Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen at all times. Monitor food inventory and communicate ordering needs. Receive, store, label, and rotate food according to food safety guidelines. Prepare meals that accommodate food allergies, dietary restrictions, and special nutrition plans. Assist with menu planning and food ordering. Ensure compliance with local health department regulations. Work collaboratively with administration and classroom staff to support daily operations. Required Qualifications Valid Washington State Food Worker Card Ability to pass a DCYF Background Check Current Infant, Child, and Adult CPR & First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain upon hire) Current Bloodborne Pathogens Training (or ability to obtain upon hire) Experience preparing meals for large groups (100+ individuals preferred) Strong knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and kitchen organization Ability to work independently while managing multiple tasks Reliable attendance and punctuality Preferred Qualifications Washington State Child Care Basics (30-Hour) Certification Previous experience in a childcare center, school, commercial, or institutional kitchen Experience with CACFP meal planning and documentation Familiarity with Washington State DCYF licensing requirements Physical Requirements Ability to stand for extended periods. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds. Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and carry food and kitchen supplies. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment while preparing meals for a childcare center licensed for up to 167 children . Ability to prioritize tasks, adapt to changing needs, and meet meal service deadlines.
