Food Handler Certification Full Job Description Qualifications/Skills:
High School Diploma/GED required. One (1) year of food preparation or related experience preferred. Needs strong interpersonal communication, empathic, organizational and multitasking abilities. Must be detail oriented and maintain strict ethical and professional boundaries, willingness to work in a change based environment, use independent critical thinking and be self-directed with little supervision needed. Excellent math skills required.
Special Requirements:
Maintain current Washington Food Handlers card; valid driver's license and be insurable on Agency insurance. Requires bending, bending to lift approximately 5% of work time, prolonged standing, stair climbing, lifting up to 60 lbs. daily. Exposed to hazards including burns, knives/slicers, slipping on wet flooring.
Responsibilities:
Maintain confidentiality per CFR part 2, HIPAA, ethical conduct and professional boundaries. Maintain an understanding of program policies and procedures. Maintain an understanding of client kitchen responsibilities and duties. Take and record temperature readings in kitchen, basement and dining areas daily. Put away inventory, taking care to store it by category with the label facing out. All canned goods should be put away neatly. Label, date and completely cover any food left in the refrigerator. Check menu and pull frozen/refrigerated products as required. Prepare lunch and dinner daily Monday thru Friday according to the menu/recipe and in a timely manner, cooking all food thoroughly and having meals ready to serve on time. Refer any questions to the Kitchen Supervisor. Prepare only brunch and dinner on Saturday and Sunday according to menu/recipe in a timely manner. Prepare sick trays and special dietary needs daily. Deliver meals and monitor service; serve when necessary. Label and date items in refrigerators and freezers and dispose of outdated food products. Keep work area clean at all time. Clean work areas using bleach solution on countertops; wash dishes as needed; clean grills/ovens as needed. Prepare client coffee in the mornings. Take daily inventory. Log any items when count is three (3) or below to be ordered by Lead Cook or Kitchen Supervisor.
Prior to leaving shift:
pull product for the next day's menu and set out morning coffee and AM cereal; take dining room temperatures; check and lock knife drawer; check snack inventory; check pantry for proper storage; turn off all ovens, grills and steam tables; shut and lock kitchen and storage room doors. Assist in supervision of Head of Kitchen and Head of Dining and monitor client job duties. Dispense safe chemicals to clients as required. Make log entries based on observation of client behaviors. Leave all problems at home. Come in ready to concentrate on the job. Other duties as assigned by Kitchen Supervisor or Administrator.
