Job Description

A prep cook is the backbone of a professional kitchen. They do the essential groundwork before service begins, such as washing and chopping produce, butchering meats, portioning ingredients, and making basic sauces. This allows line cooks to quickly assemble and cook meals during a busy service. While the exact tasks vary depending on the restaurant's menu, a prep cook's daily responsibilities usually include:
Ingredient Preparation:
Washing, peeling, slicing, chopping, and shredding vegetables, fruits, and proteins.
Batch Cooking:
Making large quantities of foundational items, including salad dressings, marinades, soups, and sauce reductions.
Following Prep Lists:
Strictly adhering to instructions and recipes laid out by the Head Chef or Kitchen Manager.
Inventory & Stocking:
Organizing walk-in coolers, properly labeling and dating food containers, and alerting the chef when ingredients run low.
Sanitation:
Maintaining a clean workspace, washing utensils, and following strict food safety protocols.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Positive attitude and a consistent display of professionalism.
  • Ability to work well with other members of the Culinary team and all hotel staff.
  • Knowledge of proper sanitation procedures, food handling and safe guidelines.
  • Understanding of restaurant operational procedures.
  • Effective decision-making skills.
  • Ability to acquire and maintain relationships e.g., associates, customers, vendors
  • Innovative, detail oriented, and quality conscious.
  • Ability to exert physical effort in transporting equipment and wares.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to endure abundant of physical movements in carrying out job duties.
  • Ability to take constructive feedback from leadership.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment without sacrificing quality of product
  • Willingness to learn new techniques and recipes
Pay:
$11.00 - $14.00 per hour
