In this role, you will wash and store all dishware, cookware, and utensils while also supporting the kitchen team with basic food prep during downtime. Morning shifts require mopping the dining room floor. You must be able to take direction from the chef throughout the entire shift and pivot to additional tasks as needed. Bilingual candidates (English/Spanish or English/Chinese) are strongly preferred to ensure smooth communication in our diverse kitchen environment.
Wash, sanitize, and store all dishes, glassware, flatware, pots, pans, and kitchen utensils Maintain the dishwashing area and ensure equipment is in proper working order Empty trash and recycling bins regularly Clean and sanitize kitchen surfaces, sinks, and floors as directed by the chef Dining Room Mopping (Morning Shift Only): During morning shifts, mop the dining room floor to ensure a clean and safe environment for staff and guests Food Preparation Support (During Downtime): Assist the cooking team with basic kitchen prep tasks during slow periods, including cutting, chopping, peeling, mixing ingredients, and preparing sauces Follow all food safety and sanitation requirements when handling ingredients
Following Chef's Direction:
Take direction from the chef or sous chef throughout the entire shift and pivot to additional tasks as needed Support the kitchen team with any other reasonable requests to ensure smooth operations Qualifications Basic written and verbal communication skills Ability to follow directions and instructions from chef and kitchen management Willingness to help with tasks beyond dishwashing (prep work, mopping) Ability to work as a team member in a fast-paced environment Basic understanding of kitchen safety and sanitation (training can be provided) Ability to perform tasks with accuracy, speed, and attention to detail Ability to remain calm under pressure Reliable and punctual, especially for morning shifts Bilingual requirement (must meet at least one): English/Spanish OR English/Chinese Previous dishwashing or kitchen experience preferred but not required Food Handler certification (if required by local regulations) is a plus Physical Demands Frequent use of hands and fingers to handle, feel, or control objects, tools, and kitchen equipment Regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl for extended periods, with duration varying depending on business volume Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds occasionally Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus Exposure to hot water, cleaning chemicals, and wet floors Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high Safety equipment (eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots, hardhats) required where applicable Slip-resistant shoes are required at all times while on shift No loose-fitting clothes or jewelry permitted Note This job description in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed by the employee(s) incumbent in this position.
