Job Description Position Overview The Dishwasher plays a foundational role in keeping our kitchen running smoothly and safely. This position is responsible for maintaining a clean and organized dish area, ensuring a steady supply of clean tableware and equipment, and supporting the overall cleanliness of the kitchen. A great dishwasher takes pride in their work, keeps up with the pace of service, and understands that what they do directly impacts the experience every guest has at Mellow Mushroom.
DISH & EQUIPMENT CLEANING
Wash all dishes, glassware, flatware, pots, and pans using the commercial dishwasher or by hand as needed, ensuring everything meets cleanliness standards before being returned to service. Monitor dishwasher water temperature throughout each shift to confirm the machine is operating within the required sanitary range. Keep the dishwasher clean and in proper working order; report any functional or mechanical issues to the Kitchen Manager promptly. Handle all tableware and glassware with care to minimize breakage and loss. Return clean dishes, utensils, and cooking equipment to their designated storage areas in an organized manner.
KITCHEN CLEANLINESS & ORGANIZATION
Maintain kitchen work areas, equipment, and utensils in clean and orderly condition throughout the entire shift. Clean food preparation and production areas as directed or as conditions require. Sweep and scrub floors in the dish area and kitchen as needed to maintain safe and sanitary conditions. Sort and remove trash regularly, placing it in designated disposal areas. Clean and rinse garbage cans as needed to prevent odor and contamination.
SUPPLY & INVENTORY SUPPORT
Maintain adequate levels of clean tableware for both the dining room and kitchen throughout service. Monitor and replenish dish detergent and cleaning supply levels, notifying management when stock is running low. Stock supplies including food items, utensils, and smallwares in designated storage areas, cupboards, and refrigerators. Receive, organize, and store incoming supplies as directed. Transfer supplies and equipment between storage and work areas safely, using hand trucks when appropriate.
TEAMWORK & OPERATIONS
Coordinate with and support fellow team members throughout service to help meet guest needs and keep the kitchen operating efficiently. Fill in for fellow employees as needed to maintain service standards and operational flow. Attend all scheduled team meetings and come prepared to engage and offer input.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to work comfortably in a hot, wet, humid, and loud environment for extended periods. Ability to remain on your feet for the duration of a shift, up to five hours or more. Ability to lift, reach, bend, and stoop regularly throughout the shift. Ability to safely lift bags, cases, and stacks weighing up to 60 pounds, up to 30 times per shift.
