Job Description
Parks and Recreation is recruiting to hire two (2) qualified individuals to fill our Recreation Worker II positions. The employee(s) will work all around Juneau as a Monitor for two of our most popular community gymnasiums.

The Parks and Recreation Department is the Department of Fun! We manage two public gyms that provide space for youth and adult public programs, user groups, and private rentals. Our Recreation Workers help supervise these facilities, ensuring they are safe, welcoming, and ready for use. Our team is committed to providing the best possible customer service to the public while managing facilities and programs that are essential to the quality of life for the people of Juneau. Is reliable, arrives on time, and is able to open and close the gym independently for each shift. Enjoys frequent interaction with the public and brings a positive, outgoing attitude to work. Has excellent customer service skills. Is flexible and available to work varied shifts, including evenings and weekends. Keeps the facility clean and safe for all patrons. Contributes to the success of the department.WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION
This position would be seasonal and work a flexible schedule (September through April). Hours would vary (Monday through Saturday) 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m., depending on scheduled rentals and activities taking place at the gyms. Floyd Dryden Gym is located at 3800 Mendenhall Loop Road. Marie Drake Gym is located at 1415 Glacier Avenue. As a Recreation Worker, you will float between Floyd Dryden Gym and Marie Drake Gym based on the facility schedule and program needs. You will be responsible for opening and closing the gym facility for each shift and preparing the space for public programs and private rentals. You will monitor facility use during public programs and private rentals and assist with setup and teardown of equipment. You will provide on-site support to renters and the public, process payments, explain and enforce facility rules, and respond to emergencies. This is a highly customer-facing role that requires strong communication and situational awareness to manage a dynamic recreational setting. You will play a key role in keeping facilities clean, safe, and welcoming for all users.Licensure:
CPR/First Aid Certification/AED within 30 days of employment .Other:
Not less than 18 years of age at time of employment . Under Alaska Statute 12.62.160 (9) Appointments to this position are offered conditionally, pending the results of a criminal records report (Non-FBI). Human Resources evaluates the results to ensure the applicant does not have any convictions that result in a direct nexus to the primary duties involving supervising minors.
