Job Description

The City of Avondale is currently accepting applications for an Aquatics Specialist in the Parks, Recreation & Libraries Department. This recruitment will remain open until filled. First review of applications will occur on 07/15/2026. This position will assist the Aquatics Maintenance Coordinator with routine facility and pool maintenance and with Aquatic Center visitors. Incumbent(s) will be required to perform duties according to the area of assignment. This is a part-time position without benefits. Incumbents are expected to work over 20 hours per week for at least 20 weeks in a fiscal year to maintain membership in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS). Perform on-site inspections and evaluations to ensure compliance with department and City safety policies and procedures. Provide general facility cleanup of grounds and facilities, including, but not limited to, picking up trash, stocking and cleaning restrooms, and parking lots, utilizing various manually operated tools and equipment. Assist Aquatics Maintenance Coordinator with Pool repair and maintenance. Regularly brush and vacuum the pool, and pressure wash the decking and pool furniture. Daily use of portable pool vacuum, automatic pool vacuum, and pressure washer equipment. Provide front-line customer service to park and Aquatic Center visitors, rentals, and event and sports participants. Enforce rules and regulations while monitoring the security of facilities. Assist in special events, rentals, programs, and activities, as requested. Assist with storing equipment and supplies. Complete and file accident and incident reports, daily reports, and report issues as required by the department. A High School diploma or GED equivalency is required. One year (1) of general and/or aquatic maintenance and customer service experience. A valid Arizona Driver's License is required. Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) or Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification preferred.

Must be able to read work orders and implement repairs. Work requires the ability to read schedules, basic facility plans, and correspondence (i.e. e-mails) from the recreation office. Work requires the ability to perform general math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and percentages. Work requires the ability to write simple instructions and guides. Must be able to work with citizens or participants in accordance with recreation policies and procedures. Within this job, the employee typically performs the assigned duties after receiving detailed instructions on methods, procedures, and desired end results. These detailed instructions normally allow little room for deviation. The immediate supervisor may, at times, provide close and constant review while work is underway and when the assignment is completed. Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and a safe manner.
