Job Description

Under direction of the Recreation Supervisor/Coordinator, the Building Attendant assists the Recreation Division in supervising the recreation facilities Center during hours other than regular business hours during rentals and special events; sets up and takes down furnishings for Center rentals, and evaluates rental activities; also assists with other recreation program areas as necessary.
CLASS TITLES
Building Attendant I Building Attendant II The following duties are typical of this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices. Supervises Recreation Center and maintains visibility for drop-in activities as well as building rentals; sets up and takes down furnishings per renters' instructions and prepares rooms for public meetings, rentals, classes, etc.; completes attendance, maintenance and other reports as requested; secures building at end of shift; maintains an element of control and care of department facilities, equipment and supplies; completes nightly and specially assigned custodial duties; and performs other duties as required. Include any combination of training, education and experience which would provide the required knowledges and abilities.
Knowledge of:
A variety of recreation activities; facility management techniques; basic custodial practices; basic health and safety practices; policies and procedures for rentals and special events.
Ability to:
Communicate effectively with staff and public; be self-directed and versatile; follow verbal and written direction; complete reports accurately and neatly in a timely manner; work independently in an unsupervised environment; work evenings, holidays, and weekends. Must be at least 16 years of age with a valid work permit; possess a positive attitude; and flexibility to work in other recreation program areas.
