Job Description
Position Summary The City of Tiffin is seeking friendly, dependable, and customer-focused individuals to serve as Recreation Center Attendant II employees at the Tiffin Recreation Center. The Recreation Center Attendant II performs all duties associated with the Recreation Center Attendant I position while also serving in an enhanced leadership and facility supervision role. This position is designed to serve as the on-duty facility lead during hours when full-time Parks & Recreation staff are not present. The Recreation Center Attendant II is responsible for providing exceptional customer service, assisting patrons with memberships and registrations, monitoring facility usage, supporting daily recreation center operations, and providing direction and assistance to other part-time Recreation Center staff during assigned shifts. The Recreation Center Attendant II reports directly to the Recreation Coordinator and works closely with other Parks & Recreation staff to maintain a safe, welcoming, professional, and well-operated recreation center. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Customer Service and Front Desk Operations Greet patrons, guests, and visitors in a professional and courteous manner. Provide information regarding facility amenities, programs, memberships, rentals, and special events. Assist patrons with recreation program registrations and membership transactions. Answer phones, respond to customer inquiries, and direct patrons to appropriate staff. Resolve routine customer concerns and complaints. Address more complex patron concerns when serving as the on-duty facility lead and determine when an issue should be referred to full-time staff. Maintain a professional and customer-focused environment throughout the facility. Membership and Facility Access Process membership sales, renewals, and guest passes. Verify memberships and monitor facility access procedures. Utilize recreation management software and point-of-sale systems. Maintain accurate membership and registration records. Assist with facility reservations and room rental inquiries. Help ensure established membership, admission, and facility access procedures are consistently followed by staff. Facility Monitoring and Operations Monitor recreation center activity to promote a safe and welcoming environment. Conduct routine facility walkthroughs and identify maintenance, cleanliness, operational, or safety concerns. Complete opening and closing procedures as assigned. Serve as a primary opening or closing staff member when scheduled. Ensure facility policies and rules are followed by patrons. Support special events, programs, rentals, leagues, and other recreation center activities as assigned. Respond to routine facility operational issues and determine when assistance from full-time staff, emergency personnel, maintenance staff, or other appropriate personnel is necessary. Document significant incidents, accidents, patron concerns, maintenance issues, or unusual circumstances occurring during the shift. Shift Leadership and Facility Supervision When full-time Parks & Recreation staff are not present, the Recreation Center Attendant II may serve as the on-duty facility lead and is expected to: Provide day-to-day direction to Recreation Center Attendant I employees and other assigned part-time or seasonal staff during the shift. Help ensure assigned employees are at their designated work areas and completing expected duties. Coordinate staff breaks and minor shift adjustments when necessary to maintain appropriate facility coverage. Provide assistance and guidance to employees when patron, facility, or operational issues arise. Ensure opening, closing, cash handling, cleaning, and facility monitoring procedures are completed appropriately. Make reasonable operational decisions necessary for the safe and effective operation of the recreation center within established City policies and procedures. Take the lead in responding to accidents, injuries, behavioral incidents, facility concerns, severe weather, alarms, or other unexpected situations. Follow established emergency procedures and contact emergency services when appropriate. Contact the Recreation Coordinator, Parks & Recreation Director, or other designated City staff when an incident or operational concern requires additional assistance or authorization. Complete or ensure completion of appropriate incident reports, shift reports, and other required documentation. Communicate important information from the shift to incoming staff and full-time Parks & Recreation employees. Model appropriate customer service, professionalism, attendance, and workplace expectations for other part-time employees. The Recreation Center Attendant II provides shift-level supervision and direction but does not independently hire, terminate, formally discipline, or conduct employee performance evaluations unless specifically authorized by the Parks & Recreation Director. Cash Handling and Administrative Support Process payments for memberships, programs, rentals, merchandise, and other recreation center services. Operate cash registers and point-of-sale systems. Balance cash drawers and follow established cash handling procedures. Assist Recreation Center Attendant I employees with cash handling or point-of-sale questions. Identify and report cash discrepancies or transaction concerns. Assist with data entry, filing, and other administrative tasks. Maintain confidentiality of customer, membership, financial, and employee information. Complete shift reports, incident documentation, or other operational records as required. Facility Appearance and Cleanliness Assist in maintaining a clean, organized, and welcoming facility. Perform light housekeeping duties including wiping surfaces, organizing equipment, and maintaining front desk areas. Monitor supply levels and notify supervisors of replenishment needs. Assist with setup and cleanup for programs, meetings, rentals, and events. Monitor overall facility appearance during assigned shifts. Provide direction to staff regarding routine cleaning or facility appearance needs when serving as the on-duty facility lead. Address immediate cleanliness or facility concerns that could impact patron safety or experience. Minimum Qualifications Must be at least 18 years of age. High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous customer service, recreation, retail, hospitality, facility operations, or similar experience preferred. Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred but not required. Ability to successfully complete City-provided training related to facility operations, emergency procedures, cash handling, customer service, and staff supervision. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate effectively with individuals of all ages and backgrounds. Ability to provide direction and guidance to other part-time employees. Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during unexpected or stressful situations. Good judgment and problem-solving ability. Ability to understand, communicate, and consistently enforce recreation center policies and procedures. Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn recreation management software. Ability to handle cash transactions accurately. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to work independently with limited direct supervision. Ability to lead a shift while maintaining a positive and team-oriented environment. Ability to communicate significant incidents or operational concerns clearly to full-time staff. Ability to maintain a professional and positive attitude in a public-facing environment. Dependability and ability to consistently report for scheduled opening, evening, weekend, or holiday shifts. Work Schedule This is a permanent part-time position. Recreation Center Attendant II employees may frequently be scheduled during periods when full-time Parks & Recreation staff are not present in the facility. Typical shifts are flexible, but may include: Early weekday mornings Weekday evenings Saturdays and Sundays Holidays Special events, programs, tournaments, rentals, and other activities occurring outside regular administrative office hours The Recreation Center Attendant II position is an important component of the recreation center's staffing structure and may regularly be assigned responsibility for overseeing facility operations when full-time staff are not present. Scheduling will be based on recreation center operating hours, programming schedules, rentals, special events, and staffing needs. Physical Requirements The position requires standing, walking, sitting, reaching, and light lifting. Employees must be able to lift up to 25 pounds and perform routine facility monitoring, customer service, setup, cleanup, and operational duties throughout the recreation center. Employees must also be able to regularly move throughout the facility and respond promptly to incidents or situations occurring in different areas of the recreation center.
