Job Description

The Town of Luray is accepting applications for one position for: Parks and Recreation Tradesman This position will entail working on a wide variety of Parks & Recreation maintenance and construction activities including mowing, trimming, general landscaping, equipment operation, restroom and facility maintenance, preparation of athletic fields and recreational amenities, trail maintenance, and preparation/attendance for special events. Most work is performed outdoors in a variety of manual work and weather conditions. Must be willing to work evenings, weekends, special events, and overtime as needed. A valid Virginia driver's license is a requirement for this position. This position requires the ability to follow verbal and written directions, manual dexterity, small and large equipment operation, ability to operate zero turn mowers, puh mowers, string trimmers, edgers, chainsaws and other similar hand tools. Heavy lifting is required on a frequent basis. Applicants should have a general knowledge in the safe operation of and use of hand tools, power tools, and job-related equipment. Work in inclement weather conditions, and amid dust, noise and fumes is necessary from time to time. Must have a strong work ethic, be able to work independently and as part of a team. Landscaping knowledge, as well as athletic field knowledge, are a plus. The position is full-time with benefits and has a three (3) month probationary review period. Starting salary for this position is $34,000, dependent on qualifications. The position is open to existing Town personnel as well as any interested and qualified person.
