Job Description
Fitness Manager Reports to: Director of Lifestyles Position Summary The Fitness Manager is responsible for overseeing and delivering fitness programming for Independent Living (IL) residents, with a focus on individualized fitness, wellness, and active aging. This position combines personal training, fitness consultations, resident education, fitness center oversight, and participation tracking to help residents safely and effectively achieve their individual goals. Key Responsibilities Personal Training & Individualized Fitness Provide approximately 10 hours per week of personal training to Independent Living residents. Develop and deliver individualized personal training programs based on each resident's fitness level, abilities, interests, and goals. Monitor resident progress and modify programs as appropriate. Maintain accurate records of individual goals, participation, progress, and program recommendations. Fitness Consultations & Assessments Conduct fitness consultations with IL residents to assess their current fitness level, abilities, interests, and goals. Use assessment information to establish appropriate and achievable fitness goals. Recommend individualized exercise plans, personal training, fitness classes, and walking opportunities based on each resident's ability and interests. Educate residents on safe and effective exercise practices and encourage continued participation in fitness and wellness activities. Fitness Center Operations Oversee the day-to-day condition, organization, cleanliness, and functionality of the fitness center. Ensure fitness equipment is safe, operational, and appropriately maintained. Identify equipment issues and coordinate repairs, maintenance, or replacement as needed. Help ensure equipment and fitness spaces are organized, welcoming, and appropriate for the resident population. Maintain knowledge of fitness equipment and provide residents with guidance on proper use. Program & Participation Tracking Maintain historical data related to fitness class participation, personal training, consultations, and other fitness activities. Track individual resident goals, participation, progress, and program recommendations. Review participation data to identify trends and opportunities to improve fitness programming. Provide regular updates and relevant data to the Director of Lifestyles. Resident Engagement & Collaboration Build positive, professional relationships with residents and encourage participation in fitness and wellness opportunities. Work collaboratively with the Director of Lifestyles and Lifestyles team to support a comprehensive approach to resident wellness. Assist with the development and evaluation of fitness classes and other wellness initiatives based on resident needs and participation. Promote a safe, inclusive, and encouraging fitness environment for residents of varying abilities. Qualifications Certification as a personal trainer from a nationally recognized organization. Experience working with older adults or in a senior living, wellness, or community fitness setting preferred. Strong understanding of exercise programming, fitness assessment, and safe exercise practices for older adults. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary team. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to maintain accurate records and use participation data to inform programming. Position Expectations The Fitness Manager is expected to be a visible and engaged presence in the fitness center and throughout the community. The successful candidate will combine strong fitness knowledge with a resident-centered approach, helping individuals understand their current abilities, establish realistic goals, and find fitness activities that are both appropriate and enjoyable.
