In accordance with co-curricular stipends of teacher contract Position Overview The Technical Director (TD) serves as a key member of the production staff for the Performing Arts Department and is responsible for overseeing the technical execution of multiple theatrical productions throughout the school year.These productions include:
High School Fall Musical Middle School Winter Musical High School Dramafest Play Middle School Dramafest Play High School Spring Production The Technical Director oversees scenic construction, technical implementation, and backstage operations for each production. The TD collaborates closely with each shows Director and production team to ensure that all technical elements support the artistic vision while maintaining a safe, efficient, and educational environment for students. The TD also supervises student crew members and coordinates volunteer support during build days and performances. Key Responsibilities Set Construction Management Plan, organize, and lead multiple scheduled set build days for each production (typically evenings and/or weekends). Supervise and instruct student crew members and parent/guardian volunteers during set builds. Ensure safe use of tools and equipment and promote proper construction techniques. Work with the Director to develop practical and safe scenic construction plans. Source, manage, and maintain tools and building materials within the production budget. Coordinate and lead strike (set dismantling and storage) following each production. Technical Oversight Collaborate with Directors and production teams on scenic and technical design implementation. Ensure all scenic elements are safe, movable, and compatible with the performance space. Coordinate and support student crews working in: Lighting, Sound, Costumes, Props and Run crew Oversee setup and technical needs for each performance space used. Tech Week & Performance Support Lead and supervise the student Stage Crew during technical rehearsals and performances for each production. Attend and provide technical support during Tech Week rehearsals. Coordinate backstage operations including scene changes, set movement, and communication. Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during rehearsals and performances. Ensure all backstage activities follow safety procedures and school policies. Collaboration & Communication Attend production meetings and selected rehearsals as required for each production. Maintain consistent communication with Directors, Music Directors, Choreographers, and Performing Arts Director. Help develop production timelines for builds, tech, and strike for each show. Support the educational mission of the performing arts program by mentoring students in technical theater skills, safety, teamwork, and backstage professionalism.
