This position is responsible for over seeing the pool schedule, lesson plans, supervising lifeguards and instructors. Managing staff that will be teaching swim lessons under the YMCA of the USA model. Lifeguards will ensure the safety of all patrons, enforcing pool rules, and implementing the branch EAP as needed. Swim instructors should have experience teaching swim lessons and enjoy working with members of all ages, especially children as many lesson opportunities with children.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES/PRINCIPLE ACTIVITIES
Provide excellent member service by exceeding member expectations. Engage in active listening with members in order to build relationships, understand individual's goals and interests, and take the initiative to assist in the achievement of those goals. Responsible for scheduling and supervising all lifeguard and instructor personnel. Work to review staff, class, and pool scheduling. Work closely with the Associate Aquatic Coordinator of Quality in the execution of the Instructional swim programs. Be available to teach and/or guard as needed. Be available to answer questions from members, program participants and staff. In conjunction with Aquatic/Assistant Aquatics Coordinators(s), oversee all required safety and quality training, drills, and documentation. Share responsibility with supervisors for the care and maintenance of facility and related program equipment. Enforce pool rules. Handle issues as they arise in a professional manner. Ensure a clean and safe pool environment at all times. When off the stand, assist with cleaning and testing of the pool. Maintain a clear and consistent line of communication with all supervisors. Participate in all branch safety and quality drills Attend all required monthly and yearly in-service trainings Incorporate all five-program components into each lesson: personal safety, water orientation/stroke development, water sports and games, rescue and personal growth. Maintain control and safety of the class. Keep a watchful eye on everyone in the class. All children in flotation should always be within arm's reach, and never turn your back on a class. Make sure all doors are securely locked when a lifeguard is not on duty. Never leave the pool unattended. All change in hours will be in writing and signed by consenting parties. You are responsible for finding your own coverage. Schedule to be determined by Aquatics Director based on department needs on a session by session basis. This position requires 38+ hours of direct service (i.e. guarding, swim instruction, private lessons, etc.) Engage in active listening with members in order to build relationships, understand each individual's goals and interests and take the initiative to assist in the achievement of those goals. Maintain a professional image and manner consistent with the YMCA mission and goals at all times. Mentor new swim instructors by facilitating a learning environment via "shadowing" and aiding swim classes. Work as a swim coach in some capacity - potential to be head swim coach. All Certifications (YSL, BLS & Lifeguarding) must be maintained. All other duties as assigned. Qualifications High school Diploma or GED At least 18 years of age, with YMCA Lifeguarding certification. If Red Cross certified, the employee must cross over to YMCA certification within six months of hire. At least two years experience in instruction of a wide variety of Aquatics programs and pool maintenance. Must be aware of YMCA movement and trends in the aquatic field and must continue to enhance his/her knowledge in YMCA Aquatic Management and certifications. Must have coaching experience YSL certification BLS and Lifeguarding certification
