We are currently seeking a Technical Theater Educator starting in Fall 2026 at an independent school in Brooklandville, MD.
Responsibilities of Technical Theater Educator:
Oversee scenic design, construction, rigging, shop safety, and student crews for theatre, dance, music, and school performances. Teach several upper school technical theater courses, including scenic, lighting, and sound design each semester. Collaborate with Technical Director on production schedules and implementation. Supervise and mentor students in technical theater disciplines, including set construction, lighting design, sound, and stage management. Expand student skillset in scenic construction, woodworking, props construction, scenic painting, stagecraft, shop safety and basic theatrical design. Mentor and oversee students in technical theater activities, emphasizing safety procedures and proper equipment use.
Requirements of Technical Theater Educator:
Bachelor's degree in Theater, Technical Theater, Theater Design, Education, or related field required. Master's degree preferred. Previous experience with set design, sound, lighting, and/or stage management required. Experience with woodworking, scenery fabrication, and stagecraft. Previous K-12 theater teaching experience strongly preferred. Extensive knowledge of technical theater, theater equipment, and best practices. Ability to build sets for theater productions. Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Additional Desired Qualities:
Interest to contribute to school community outside of the classroom as an athletic coach, student advisor, or student club leader.
