GENERAL FUNCTION
The Director of Fitness, Security & Special Events is responsible for providing strategic leadership and operational oversight for the Lima Family YMCA's Fitness Department, Security Department, and Association-wide special events. This position is responsible for creating a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment while ensuring high-quality wellness programming and successful community events that support the YMCA's mission. In addition to leading fitness operations and security initiatives, the Director assists with youth sports coordination, oversees corporate and insurance-based membership billing, and participates in evening and weekend facility management coverage.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Fitness Department Leadership Provide leadership, direction, and oversight for all fitness center and wellness programs. Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate fitness center staff. Ensure Fitness area is clean and sanitized and supervise housekeeping staff in this area. Develop and implement fitness challenges to promote engagement with members and the community. Ensure fitness equipment is maintained, safe, and operating efficiently and work with maintenance to repair in a timely fashion. Monitor departmental budgets, revenue, and expenses. Promote member engagement, retention, and exceptional customer service. Security Department Leadership Oversee the YMCA's building security and safety procedures. Supervise security personnel and establish staffing schedules. Follow up on incident reports and investigate member incidents. Ensure staff are properly trained in safety protocols and emergency response. Collaborate with local emergency responders and community partners as needed. Special Events Provide leadership and coordination for Association-wide special events including: Healthy Kids Day Annual Golf Outing YMCA Triathlon Additional community events, wellness initiatives, special projects and fundraising activities as assigned Responsibilities include: Event planning and logistics Volunteer recruitment and coordination Budget management Sponsorship support Marketing collaboration Vendor coordination Event execution and evaluation Youth Sports Support Assist in coordinating youth sports leagues and programs. Support scheduling, volunteer coaches, officials, and program logistics. Assist with seasonal planning and participant communication. Membership & Administrative Support Assist with billing and account management for corporate membership programs. Manage special insurance-based memberships, including Medicare Advantage and other eligible health plan partnerships. Ensure accurate enrollment, verification, reporting, and reimbursement processes. Maintain confidential member records in accordance with YMCA policies. Facility Leadership Serve as Manager on Duty during assigned evenings and weekends. Provide visible leadership throughout the facility. Respond to member concerns, emergencies, and operational issues. Support cross-department collaboration and overall facility operations.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Exercise Science, Sports Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred. Minimum of three years of progressive leadership experience in fitness, recreation, wellness, or YMCA operations preferred. Supervisory experience preferred. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Experience planning and coordinating events preferred. Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail. Experience with membership management software is preferred. Working knowledge of risk management and facility safety practices. Required Certifications CPR, AED, and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within required timeframe). Additional YMCA and fitness certifications as required. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift up to 50 pounds, and move throughout the facility. Ability to work indoors and outdoors during events. Ability to respond quickly to emergencies. Work Schedule This is a full-time exempt position requiring flexibility to meet operational needs. Regular evening and weekend hours are expected to support facility coverage, programs, and special events.
