Description The American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC) invites applications for the position of Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Veterinary Medical Education (JVME). This is a rare opportunity for a qualified individual to set the direction for innovation and scholarship via the authoritative international educational research journal dedicated to veterinary medicine. JVME is a peer-reviewed publication published by the University of Toronto Press (UTP). This journal features research findings, topic reviews and opinion pieces that inform veterinary and other health professions. AAVMC seeks outstanding candidates who have an in-depth understanding of academic veterinary medicine and emerging issues across health professions' education and higher education fields. The Editor-in-Chief role reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer. Requirements AAVMC seeks outstanding candidates who have an in-depth understanding of academic veterinary medicine and emerging issues across health professions' education and higher education fields. The required qualifications for the Editor-in-Chief role are: Formal training in education•including but not limited to MS, EdM, PGCertVetEd, PhD Scholarly accomplishments in veterinary medical education or health professions' education Commitment to AAVMC's mission, vision and goals Proactive, professional, accountable and results-oriented Academic veterinary medical experience (inclusive of achieving a senior rank) Research, writing, and reviewing skills in veterinary and education fields Service on an Editorial Board Excellent communications skills and ability to diplomatically facilitate among several perspectives fairly, effectively and efficiently Ability to travel when required (including AAVMC's annual symposium and AAVMC education research meetings) Able to work from home or other remote location; dedicated office space is not provided Additional desirable qualifications include: Veterinary degree (DVM/VMD or equivalent) Strong leadership experience and skills Project management skills and ability to deliver timely products Strategic planning skills to create a vision and plan to enhance the reputation and stature of JVME To increase the journal's impact To serve and grow the readership To advance educational change To adapt to the electronic, open-access and artificial intelligence age
EXPECTED RESPONSIBILITIES
Initial five-year term with opportunity for further limited renewal, based on annual performance reviews Works with publisher (UTP•University of Toronto Press) to successfully produce JVME on a bi-monthly basis, with occasional special editions Supports the Chief Executive Officer of AAVMC in matters related to veterinary education research Has full authority over the editorial content of each issue, including the evaluation, selection and editing of individual articles Encourages submission of material for publication Recruits, manages and rewards timely peer review Works with the UTP editorial assistance to manage the publication process Communicates with authors and reviewers to ensure professional communication regardless of outcome Chairs and maintains an engaged committed Editorial Board Participates in Journal promotion and sponsorship activities Participates as required at AAVMC professional conferences, including, but not limited to: AAVMC Catalyze, Vet
ED AAVMC
Plans, promotes and participates in professional development opportunities related to veterinary educational research•e.g. workshops for authors and reviewers Represents the Journal for planning purposes on AAVMC committees as needed. Works with programming committees to ensure conference abstracts are published in JVME. Compensation includes quarterly honorarium, and reimbursement for required travel. This position has been ~ 25% FTE for the current EIC.
