The Center for Development, Support and Success in Engineering and Computing (CDSSEC) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Engineers on Wheels (EOW) Student Assistant to join our dynamic team. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to impactful STEM outreach initiatives while developing valuable skills in program coordination, curriculum development, and educational engagement.
Key Responsibilities:

Coordinate Outreach Activities:
Schedule and organize school and community visits, communicate with teachers and administrators, and manage logistics for EOW programming.
¿ Operate the
EOW Outreach Van:
Safely operate and transport equipment to and from outreach locations using the Engineers on Wheels van; ensure proper loading, unloading, and maintenance checks.
¿
Develop Educational Content:
Assist in the creation of lesson plans, hands-on STEM activities, and instructional materials tailored to K¿12 audiences.
¿
Deliver STEM Lessons:
Participate in classroom visits and community events by teaching STEM concepts and leading engaging activities for students.
¿
Create Digital Learning Resources:
Contribute to the development of online modules, videos, and web-based content for outreach and educational use.
¿
Support Program Operations:
Maintain inventory of outreach materials and equipment, support daily logistics, and help ensure smooth execution of departmental programs.
¿ Assist with
Event Coordination:
Help plan and execute departmental functions, workshops, and outreach events.
¿
Maintain Program Records:
Track participation, feedback, and impact metrics to support ongoing evaluation and reporting efforts.
¿
Technical Support:
Troubleshoot and resolve system or equipment-related issues during outreach activities as needed.
¿
Policy Support:
Contribute to the creation and enforcement of program guidelines and operational procedures.
¿ Availability on
Weekends:
Weekend work is occasionally required to support outreach events and community engagements.

Student Assistant
Applicants must be currently enrolled as a student at FIU with a minimum of six (6) credits as an Undergraduate student or three (3) credits as a Graduate student during the Fall and Spring semesters. During the Summer semesters, Students need only remain enrolled and are not required to take credit hours, but cannot have graduated.
Upon decreasing credit hours or graduating, student employment must end.
Hours will vary based on class schedule and departmental needs.
Standard 20 hours
$15.00/hour to $20.00/hour
