Full Job Description Job Purpose:
The Child Watch & Birthday Party Coordinator at
MERRIMACK VALLEY YMCA
is responsible for overseeing the Child Watch program and coordinating birthday parties, ensuring a safe, engaging, and enjoyable environment for children and families. The role involves planning, organizing, and executing activities that promote child development and family engagement, while maintaining the highest standards of safety and customer service.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement age-appropriate activities for the Child Watch program that promote learning, creativity, and physical activity. Coordinate and manage birthday party bookings, including planning themes, activities, and logistics to ensure a memorable experience for participants. Supervise Child Watch staff, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure they deliver high-quality care and service. Maintain a safe and clean environment in the Child Watch area, adhering to all health and safety regulations. Communicate effectively with parents and guardians, addressing any concerns and providing updates on children's activities and progress. Collaborate with other YMCA departments to integrate Child Watch and birthday party activities with broader YMCA programs and events. Manage inventory and supplies for Child Watch and birthday parties, ensuring all necessary materials are available and in good condition. Handle administrative tasks related to scheduling, record-keeping, and reporting for Child Watch and birthday party activities. Promote the Child Watch program and birthday party services through marketing initiatives and community outreach efforts.
Required Education:
High school diploma or equivalent is required. An associate degree in early childhood education, recreation management, or a related field is preferred.
Required Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of experience working with children in a supervisory or program coordination role. Experience in planning and organizing events, particularly children's parties or similar activities. Previous experience in a customer service role, preferably within a recreational or educational setting. Experience in a YMCA or similar community-focused organization is a plus.
Required Skills and Abilities:
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to effectively manage and motivate a team. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities. Ability to develop and implement engaging and age-appropriate activities for children. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact effectively with children, parents, and staff. Proficiency in using computer software, including Microsoft Office Suite and scheduling tools. Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and efficiently. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team. CPR and First Aid certification is required or must be obtained within the first 90 days of employment.
