Special Events Assistant Salary $17.42 - $20.78 Hourly Location City Hall Burnsville, MN Job Type Seasonal Job Number 2026-00424 Department Communications Opening Date 05/12/2026 Closing Date 5/27/2026 11:59 PM Central Description Benefits Questions Position Details The Special Events Assistant supports City events, outreach, and community engagement efforts by helping create welcoming, organized, and positive experiences for residents, visitors, and community partners. This seasonal, part-time role assists with event set-up and clean-up, on-site event support, the Community Engagement Vehicle, customer service, photography, and general support for City programs and initiatives. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with the public, participating in community events, and helping deliver high-quality experiences that reflect the City's values of collaboration, innovation, and excellence. How you'll use your strengths every day Special Events Assistants value people and perspectives by: Providing excellent customer service to residents, visitors, and community partners. Welcoming and assisting the public at City Hall, events, and community programs. Engaging with the community in a positive, helpful, and respectful way. They are on the leading edge when they: Help create safe, enjoyable, and welcoming experiences at City events and programs. Support the Community Engagement Vehicle and assist with outreach efforts in the community. Take photographs and help capture moments that highlight City events and community connections. And they expect the best by: Assisting with the coordination, set-up, delivery, and clean-up of City and partner events. Supporting staff, departments, and special projects as assigned. Helping evaluate events and programs to improve future community experiences. What you'll bring to help you be successful And they expect the best by: A high school diploma or GED. Special event or local government experience is preferred. An interest in working with the public and helping create positive community experiences. The ability to provide excellent customer service in person, over the phone, and at City events. A willingness to support event set-up, clean-up, outreach activities, photography, and other department needs as assigned. Availability to work through September 12, 2026. An interest in developing what you do best and a commitment to valuing each colleague and community member for their unique perspectives. As a temporary employee, you will have access to Burnsville University, the City's internal training and development program, and are allowed to participate in courses during lunch or outside of work hours. None High school diploma or GED Associates degree Bachelors degree Master's degree 02 Please select your level of experience using computers and technology. No experience Basic — I can use email, search for information, and complete simple computer tasks. Intermediate — I am comfortable using programs such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, or similar tools. Advanced — I regularly use technology to organize information, communicate, create documents, track details, or support projects/events. 03 This is a seasonal position that may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
