Director of Development & Communications DATE June 2026 JOB SUMMARY Supports the success of Mission development activities. Works with staff and volunteers to assist with planning, coordinating, and implementing events to raise funds for and promote community awareness of Mission services and programs. Responsible for recruiting, interviewing, and scheduling, volunteers, community service workers, and interns in collaboration with department managers and supervisors. Responsible for assisting with securing and processing of donations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Recruits & Coordinates volunteers/interns in conjunction with the needs of Rescue Mission Programs this includes but not limited to: Ensures proper background checks are completed based on program requirements Organizes & directs volunteers, including large scale volunteer days e.g. spring cleaning, clothes sorting, gift wrapping Maintains the volunteer and internship resource manual Maintains the spreadsheet of current volunteers/interns contact information & schedule and communicated schedule to program staff on a weekly basis with the volunteer/intern schedule Coordinates the recruitment of all new volunteers through social media & other platforms Represents the Mission at area Volunteer Fairs Assists with planning, implementation, and production of fundraising events & projects, including but not limited to maintaining vendor relationships, event logistics, and volunteer coordination, preparation, set up, event execution and tear down. Recruits volunteers for and maintains working knowledge of Thread of Life Thrift Store operations including but not limited to cash register and cash procedure; and participates/assists in coverage rotation at store when volunteers are not available. When needed and in the absence of Development & Communications Associate will process checks and in-kind donations. When needed in the absence of volunteers will greet and direct visitors, answer incoming calls, retrieve and forward calls left on the general voicemail and complete other administrative duties. Completes a monthly activity report for Director of Development. Other Duties Abide by all Mission, program and safety policies, procedures and guidelines. Attend and participate in regular meetings and trainings as requested by your supervisor. Complete annual mandated trainings. All other duties as requested by your supervisor.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma or equivalent required Associates degree in marketing, communications preferred Availability to work holidays and evenings required Two (2) years relevant experience preferred Intermediate skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook Demonstrates effective verbal, written, listening and presentation communication skills Confidentiality is of the utmost importance Ability to handle multiple tasks Valid NYS Driver's License required Enthusiastic support of our Mission Statement

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
The tasks described signify many of the physical requirements of this position, based on a Time Weighted Average of an 8-hour workday. Lifting up to 25 lbs. at waist level, up to 20 lbs. overhead Pushing/pulling up to 25 lbs. Twisting at the torso in stationary position, while seated Clerical tasks, repetitive motion (of wrist and hand) Use of hazardous chemicals (toner and ink cartridges) Use of stationary or portable machinery: paper cutter, paper shredder, photocopier, adding machine Bending legs to lift heavy objects up to 25 lbs. from floor level Standing for extended period (up to 2-3 hours at a time) Sitting for extended period (up to 5-6 hours at a time) Walking up and down stairs Typing on a computer and using a mouse (up to 2-3 hours at a time)
Status/Hours:
Full Time, Monday — Friday
- 40 hours per week 8am-4pm
Pay Rate:
$19.00-21.00 per hour depending on experience
