About Us Tomaquag Museum is a growing non-profit dedicated to sharing local Indigenous history, culture, and arts. The Museum was founded in 1958 by Eva Butler, an anthropologist, and Princess Red Wing (Narragansett/Wampanoag). Today, we have a staff of 16, an annual budget that exceeds $1.2 million, and are amid a multi-million-dollar campaign to build our new facility on the URI campus. We are hiring an Events Coordinator to complete our three-person Development team. This is a part-time position, averaging 24 hours per week. Compensation will be based on the candidate's experience, education, and skills. The hourly rate is $24 plus benefits. Position Summary We are looking for someone who can lead the planning and execution of Tomaquag Museum's fundraising and community engagement events. This role coordinates the museum's signature fundraising event
  • The Annual Honoring & Cultural Celebration, peer-to-peer giving days, and serves as the development office liaison to select cultural celebrations.
The Events Coordinator works closely with the Development Manager and the Donor Relations Coordinator to ensure events build community connection, expand the donor base, and support the museum's fundraising goals. Key Responsibilities Signature Fundraising Event Planning & Execution Lead planning and implementation of the Annual Honoring & Cultural Celebration , the museum's signature fundraising event. Coordinate logistics including venue preparation, vendor management, program flow, sponsorship fulfillment, and volunteer coordination. Manage event budgets, timelines, and task management systems. Support sponsorship fulfillment, tickets sales, auction, fund-a-mission and donor recognition in coordination with the Development Manager. Peer-to-Peer Fundraising Campaigns Coordinate Tomaquag Museum's participation in peer-to-peer fundraising campaigns such as: 401Gives Native Nonprofit Day #GivingTuesday Responsibilities include: Volunteer fundraiser recruitment and support Campaign messaging and promotional schedules Coordination with the communications team Tracking participation and results Cultural Celebration Event Liaison Serve as the development office liaison to key cultural gatherings, ensuring development opportunities are integrated appropriately.

  • December Responsibilities include: Implementing creative interactions with event attendees Collecting attendee contact information Manage table volunteers Event Data, Reporting, Follow-up Track attendance and notable constituent information and share with Donor Relations Coordinator to record in the donor database.
Provide post-event reports and recommendations for future improvements. Engage in strategic donor and volunteer stewardship. The Development Department is vital to mission advancement. More than 75% of the Museum's operating revenue is derived from philanthropy. This position calls for an individual that can work autonomously and able to work as a team. Flexibility, responsiveness, creativity, problem solving, accountability, and open communication are essential for this position. Qualifications 2-4 years' experience in event planning, nonprofit development, or related field. Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience. Strong project management and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple timelines and logistics simultaneously. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with volunteers, donors, community leaders, and partners. Experience with fundraising platforms or peer-to-peer campaigns preferred.
