POSITION OVERVIEW
The Food Pantry Associate at Jewish Family Service of Greater Harrisburg (JFS) plays a vital role in supporting food security and dignity for individuals and families in need through the Libby Urie Food Pantry. This part-time position oversees the daily operations of the pantry, including inventory management, volunteer coordination, client intake, and community collaboration. The Pantry Manager ensures that food distribution is efficient, respectful, and aligned with JFS's mission to provide compassionate support to the community. The role requires strong organizational and interpersonal skills, a commitment to social service values, and the ability to connect clients with additional resources both within JFS and the broader community. The Pantry Associate also contributes to case management efforts, supervises volunteers, and collaborates with partner agencies to enhance services for seniors and families. This position is ideal for someone passionate about human service, community engagement, and community support services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Maintain an up-to-date inventory of pantry items, ensuring accurate records of incoming donations and outgoing distributions. Coordinate weekly and monthly food distribution schedules, including organization of pick-up or delivery logistics. Oversee volunteer scheduling for pantry operations, ensuring adequate coverage for sorting, packing, and distribution days. Communicate regularly with volunteers regarding scheduling changes or needs. Train and orient new volunteers, ensuring they understand pantry procedures and safety protocols. Conduct intake for new pantry clients and maintain updated client records. Prepare monthly data reports for the Central PA Food bank and other related stakeholders. Utilize computer systems for database management, reporting, and communication. Maintain a valid PA driver's license, clean driving record, and access to a registered vehicle for work-related travel. Other responsibilities as requested, including support for community outreach events and special distributions.
Position Requirements & Qualifications:
Experience in customer service, client intake, and coordination of support services, especially for seniors and families facing food insecurity. Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage inventory, schedules, and volunteer coordination effectively. Proficiency in basic computer applications, including spreadsheets and databases, and ability to maintain accurate records. Valid Pennsylvania driver's license, clean driving record, access to a registered vehicle for occasional work-related travel, and must pass all required background clearances. Ability to lift 30
