POSITION SUMMARY
The Taproom Assistant acts as the front-line face of the Upper Hand brand in the taproom. This position will demonstrate thorough knowledge of taproom serving and Upper Hand Brewery's products and history. Provides mentoring and training to other FOH team members. Delivers excellent service to patrons and handles all customer issues effectively, ensuring a memorable experience. Assists in the planning and executing of Upper Hand Brewery's events. Is responsible for the inventory, organization, and clean working order of all FOH & Administrative/Office spaces.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintains beer knowledge: Has a strong knowledge of the beer industry and beer styles, knows proper glassware, tiers, & price points and looks to strategize and evolve current programming to grow and expand on-premise sales revenue Monitors front of house employees to keep staff on task while on duty, leads day-to-day taproom activities during shift and ensures proper completion of opening/closing duties Serves alcohol to customers responsibly & politely while adhering to TIPS training guidelines; follows proper beer pouring procedures Maintains appropriate stock of beer (keg and package), merchandise, snacks, office supplies, and other consumables for the taproom May assist with placing beer, food, and consumables orders for the taproom Collaborates with point-of-sale (POS) vendors and Upper Hand Directors and Management to create and procure POS items Reconciles drawer deposit at the conclusion of each shift; reports deposit discrepancies to the Taproom Manager Fulfill, track, and record any online store/distributor POS orders Assists with monitoring and conducting FOH/BOH retail inventory Works flexible schedule, including nights and weekends as necessary to achieve department goals Accurately tenders money and gives change for purchases made in the taproom Full knowledge of all discounts, promotions, policies, and procedures for employees and guests Knows policies including beer, payment, guests, etc. regarding live talent on event nights Assists with the logistics, setup, and tear-down of all taproom events Upholds all policies and procedures set in place by Upper Hand Brewery management Guides and assists FOH staff while on shift Contributes to Social Media content creation for platforms like Facebook, Instagram, etc. and can share posts on personal social media pages Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND/OR SKILL
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, Marketing, Brewing Science, or a related field preferred
- Certifications in responsible alcohol service (such as TIPS or state-required equivalent) preferred or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire. Upper Hand Brewery may offer training
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in hospitality, food & beverage, retail, or customer service management
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience required, preferably in a brewery, taproom, restaurant, bar, or entertainment venue
- Experience managing staff schedules, training employees, and handling customer concerns
- Proven track record of delivering exceptional guest experiences and building customer loyalty
- Experience with POS systems, cash handling, inventory management, and daily operational reporting
- Familiarity with craft beer styles, brewing processes, and the craft beverage industry preferred
- Strong leadership, coaching, and team-development abilities
- Outstanding customer service and relationship-building skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to multitask and remain organized in a fast-paced environment
- Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills
- Ability to analyze sales trends, labor costs, and operational performance metrics

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds without assistance a distance of up to 200 feet and the ability to maneuver kegs of beer weighing up to 170 pounds with the assistance of another individual, carts, and/or dollies a distance of up to 200 feet
- Ability to work in a loud, crowded, and fast-paced taproom environment
- Ability to operate taproom equipment and perform light cleaning and maintenance tasks
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Passion for craft beer and knowledge of current industry trends
- Experience planning and executing taproom events, live entertainment, or community engagement activities
- Experience managing social media interactions or assisting with local marketing initiatives
- Demonstrated ability to drive sales growth while maintaining a welcoming and guest-focused atmosphere
COMPENSATION
This position splits job codes and pay compensation. Roughly 60% of the time will be paid at $13.00 per hour plus tips for shifts while assisting the Tapsters and guests in the Taproom, with a minimum wage of $13.73 per hour guaranteed. The remaining roughly 40% of the time will be paid at $15.00 per hour, ineligible for tips, while performing office and administrative duties. Posted salary range assumes a tipped wage average of $21.25 per hour for tipped wage shifts.
