Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking an energetic, customer-focused Seasonal Part-Time Tapster to join our taproom team. This position plays a key role in creating an exceptional guest experience by providing knowledgeable beer service, food service, retail sales, and outstanding hospitality. The ideal candidate is personable, dependable, and passionate about craft beer, local business, and customer service. This is a seasonal, part-time position requiring day, evening, weekend, and/or holiday availability.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Serve beer, cider, seltzer, non-alcoholic beverages, and other approved products in accordance with Michigan liquor laws and brewery policies.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of brewery products, beer styles, ingredients, and brewing processes.
  • Guide guests through beer selections and provide recommendations based on customer preferences.
  • Verify guest age and monitor alcohol consumption to ensure responsible service.
  • Take and process food orders accurately through the point-of-sale system.
  • Serve food and beverages to guests when applicable.
  • Maintain knowledge of menu offerings, ingredients, and potential allergens.
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and hygiene standards.
  • Promote and sell packaged beer, gift cards, apparel, glassware, and other brewery merchandise.
  • Assist customers with product selection and answer questions regarding retail offerings.
  • Maintain attractive and organized merchandise displays.
  • Accurately process retail transactions and handle cash, credit card, and digital payments.
  • Create a welcoming and positive atmosphere for all guests.
  • Resolve customer concerns professionally and promptly.
  • Support brewery events, promotions, and special releases.
  • Encourage repeat business through exceptional service and engagement.
  • Open and close taproom areas according to established procedures.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of bar, dining, retail, and service areas.
  • Restock beer, merchandise, glassware, and supplies as needed.
  • Assist with inventory counts and routine operational tasks.
  • Comply with all company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Must be at least 21 years of age at time of hire
  • Previous bartending, serving, retail sales, hospitality, or customer service experience preferred.
  • Experience in a brewery, winery, restaurant, or bar environment is a plus.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong communication and sales abilities.
  • Ability to learn and effectively discuss craft beer styles and brewery products.
  • Comfortable operating a point-of-sale system and handling cash transactions.
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paces environment.
  • Dependable, punctual, and team-oriented.
  • Ability to obtain the required alcohol service certification and complete brewery training (TIPS).
Upper Hand Brewery will provide necessary training.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to pull / push up to 170 pound kegs.
  • Ability to bend, reach, stoop, and perform repetitive motions.
  • Ability to work in a busy indoor and outdoor environment under varying weather conditions.
SCHEDULE & COMPENSATION
  • Seasonal, part-time position.
  • Flexible scheduling with days, evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events required.
  • Hourly wage of $8.00/hour plus tips. Minimum wage of $13.73/hour guaranteed.
  • Employee discounts on brewery merchandise and eligible products.
  • "Shift" beers at the end of every shift.
