Job Description

Overview Pure Intentions Coffee is a small, family owned and operated coffee roaster in Charlotte, North Carolina home to 15 employees. We proudly produce specialty roasted coffee and ready-to-drink cold brew coffee products that are self distributed to restaurants, cafes, grocery stores, and more throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast. We are seeking an experienced coffee roaster to fill our Head Coffee Roaster position. Our current Head Roaster is moving out of the area and we are looking for an energetic, growth oriented coffee roaster to fill his shoes. We roast predominately Latin and South American coffees to profiles approaching and just beyond second crack - mostly medium and semi-dark with some limited forays into lighter African coffees. The bulk of our batch sizes average 100 pounds, but skills are needed to scale profiles down to 30 pounds and up to 120 pounds. We have a 60 kg automated Probat and a 35 kg manual USRC roaster. Sample roasting is done on a 500g Mill City. This position requires experience in the following skillsets: Use of commercial coffee roasting equipment, minumum machine size 20 kg per batch Experience analyzing green coffee for defects, density, water content Experience roasting type samples of coffee and performing flavor analysis via cupping A deep understanding of flavor and profile development in a roast curve, and how to manipulate variable to achieve desired profiles Understanding of the green coffee supply chain, C market, futures contracts and other coffee-acquisition considerations
Roasting Responsibilities:
Manage daily and weekly roast production schedules Share production roasting responsibilities with our Production Roasting Assistant Perform sample roasting as needed Manage roasted and green coffee inventory Perform necessary administrative tasks to log and track roasting process
Quality Control Responsibilities:
Perform weekly production quality control assessments and sample assessments via cupping Perform necessary administrative/reporting tasks to log and track results of sensory evaluations.
Warehouse and General Responsibilities:
Adherence to existing PIC protocols Assist in general warehouse upkeep and cleaning Skills we are seeking: Experience with technology including spreadsheets, data logging software, word processing software, email and calendar software Experience working in a professional atmosphere Qualities we are seeking: Trustworthy Hard-working Committed Career-oriented Detail-oriented Team focused Desire to continue industry learning As part of our compensation package we do offer partially subsidized medical, dental, and vision benefits, paid time off, and 401(k) matching.
