Job Description

An opportunity to work with one of the Finger Lake's acclaimed and well established wineries. The assistant winemaker position will be responsible for assisting with day to day operations in the cellar, managing cellar staff, bottling and laboratory analysis in a fast paced, but fun atmosphere. The position will report directly to the Associate Winemaker. We specialize in vinifera grown/made wines with an emphasis on Riesling, Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, Blaufrankisch and Pinot Noir. We focus largely on creating small lots of wines expressing a time and place. A successful candidate, in conjunction with the Winemaking team, will participate in events and activities geared toward sales and marketing of our wines.
Compensation:
CoE plus healthcare benefits.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Manage harvest with Winemaking team (Press pad, fermentations, cap management, sampling, etc) Sanitation Laboratory analysis All cellar work (additions, racking, filtration, etc) Bottling Inventory management
  • Key member of winery safety team EDUCATION and
EXPERIENCE
Associates in Enology/Fermentation Science/Viticulture or related science is preferred Minimum 4 years practical, commercial year-round winemaking experience Vineyard knowledge and experience desirable Laboratory familiarity Forklift Certified (will need to be recertified but need working knowledge.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with all aspects of harvest, fermentation, cellar work, and winemaking analysis Self-starter with attention to detail & good project management skills Available to work a varied schedule during harvest season as needed Excellent communication skills Accuracy with numbers and strong recordkeeping skills along with a working knowledge
