First impressions matter, and at Sugar Bowl, you'd be the one making them. We're looking for friendly, organized Hosts and Hostesses to be the welcoming face of our Front of House team — the first smile guests see and the calm, capable presence that sets the tone for their whole dining experience. You'll juggle reservations, answer questions with a smile, and keep the dining room running smoothly, all while making every guest feel like they're exactly where they should be. Sugar Bowl Resort has been proudly independent for over 80 years and is one of the oldest ski resorts in California. Situated atop beautiful Donner Summit, Sugar Bowl has a storied past with ties to Austrian ski culture, Hollywood and Walt Disney. This special community helped bring skiing to "sunny California" since December 1939. Since then, it continues to attract adventurous winter sports enthusiasts alike.
Who You Are:
1+ year of food and beverage experience preferred Warm, welcoming, and genuinely people-first Holds, or is willing to obtain, Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) certification Holds a current California Food Handler's certification Highly organized and calm under pressure, especially when things get busy Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment while staying calm under pressure; Comfortable multitasking between phones, reservations, and guests in the room Available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed for a resort operating schedule Committed to providing excellent, attentive service to every guest, every time Open to learning new skills and supporting other departments as needed; a versatile, team-first mindset What You'll do: Greet and acknowledge every guest as they arrive, setting a warm tone for their visit Assist with expediting food and beverage orders when requested Take reservations for the dining room Answer phones and provide guests with helpful, accurate information Reset and maintain food service areas Clear dirty dishes from tables when requested Bring menus and fill water at tables as needed Possess exemplary menu knowledge of food and drinks Take orders and own the Lounge experience Maintain professional conduct and grooming standards at all times Cross-train and lend a hand in other departments as needed, building a broader understanding of resort operations Own the reservation platform Assist with special events as needed
Physical Requirements:
Standing and walking for extended periods throughout a shift Comfortable carrying menus, place settings, and small items around the dining room Steady balance for moving quickly and gracefully through busy dining areas Manual dexterity for handling phones, reservation systems, and dining materials Sufficient visual and auditory acuity to manage a busy floor and respond promptly to guests
