Job Description
Host / Hostess Job Description Gallions Fine Dining Restaurant Position Summary The Host/Hostess is the first and last impression of Gallions Fine Dining Restaurant. This position is responsible for providing exceptional guest service by warmly welcoming guests, managing reservations and waitlists, coordinating seating, and ensuring a smooth flow of service between the front-of-house staff. The Host/Hostess must maintain a professional appearance, communicate effectively, and contribute to creating an outstanding dining experience for every guest. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Greet every guest promptly with a warm, friendly, and professional attitude. Manage reservations using the restaurant reservation system. Maintain an accurate waitlist and provide realistic wait times to guests. Escort guests to their tables while presenting menus and introducing their server when appropriate. Coordinate seating with managers and servers to ensure balanced table rotation. Answer incoming telephone calls professionally and assist guests with reservations and general inquiries. Monitor the dining room to ensure guests are seated comfortably and promptly. Assist in accommodating guests with special requests, accessibility needs, or celebrations. Communicate effectively with management, servers, bartenders, and kitchen staff regarding seating needs and guest concerns. Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming host stand and entrance area. Keep menus clean, organized, and readily available. Thank guests for dining with Gallions and invite them to return. Assist with opening and closing duties as assigned. Support other front-of-house team members during busy service periods. Follow all company policies, health department regulations, and safety procedures. Qualifications Previous restaurant or customer service experience preferred but not required. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Friendly, outgoing, and professional demeanor. Ability to remain calm and courteous during busy periods. Strong organizational and multitasking abilities. Basic computer and reservation system knowledge preferred. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds. Ability to bend, reach, stoop, and perform repetitive motions. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
