JOB SUMMARY
The multimedia reporter and radio host plays a vital role in WVIA Public Media's overall reporting and production of news content for radio, digital and TV. This position is WVIA Radio's local voice of newscasts and weather during the broadcasts of NPR's All Things Considered. Also, the reporter will identify and execute engaging content, including receiving assignments or evaluating news leads and tips to develop stories for digital, radio and
TV. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Write/produce/anchor radio newscasts, including operating radio console Consistently deliver a professional on-air presentation that adheres to standards of WVIA Must conceive and execute engaging content promptly, including when accepting assignments or evaluating news leads to develop story ideas Must gather and verify factual information for stories through interviews, observation and research Must be detail-oriented and dedicated to accuracy according to prescribed editorial style and ethical standards of WVIA Experience in AP style writing required Computer literacy needed, including computer systems for digital publishing Still photography a plus to illustrate stories Shooting and editing video a plus to illustrate stories Work cooperatively with editor and photographer if assigned story Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment Strong communication skills required Maintain editorial standards to ensure accuracy, thoroughness, diversity, fairness and balance are met through all of WVIA's platforms.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Broadcasting, or related field, 2 to 3 years experience as a reporter, producer, correspondent or another on-air or journalism-related role in a professional radio, television or digital environment. One year live on-air hosting or newscasting preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
Must have strong broadcast journalism writing skills Must have previous experience using digital audio and video editing software, such as Adobe Audition and Premiere Excellent on-air presentation Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and meet deadlines Excellent interviewing skills Ability to work independently in a multimedia environment. Fluency in English; the ability to speak Spanish is a plus. Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Must be able to attend work predictably and reliably. Must be able to sit at a desk for extended periods of time, crouch, reach, stand, and use stairs. Will have frequent use of a computer and phone for work purposes. Must be able to carry up to 20 lbs. reliably and move equipment
