Job Description:
The House Manager is a crucial member of the front-of-house team at The Egg, playing a pivotal role in ensuring a positive audience experience. This position is responsible for overseeing the theater and lounge spaces before, during, and after events, with a focus on safety, comfort, and efficient operations. The House Manager will lead "greeting and seating" of all guests, provide oversight of all guest-facing services, and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations. This role demands a proactive individual who can manage various tasks, solve problems effectively, and maintain clear communication across departments.

We are seeking a candidate who is highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing competing priorities. The ideal House Manager will demonstrate strong leadership and communication skills, with a focus on enhancing the audience experience. This role requires flexibility, adaptability, and a calm demeanor, especially in high-pressure situations. About The Egg The Egg, which houses a 980-seat and a 440-seat theater, is owned by the State of New York and managed by the not-for-profit Nelson A. Rockefeller "Empire State Plaza Performing Arts Center Corporation". Through partnerships and collaborations with the community and promoters, The Egg presents performances, spotlights emerging artists, fosters relationships with resident companies, and enhances activities in cultural and arts education. Responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to: Oversee the seating and ticket-checking process, ensuring efficient flow of patrons. Conduct pre-performance briefings with front-of-house staff. Oversee setup of lounge spaces. Monitor theater and lobby spaces for cleanliness, organization, and positive atmosphere. Manage and respond to patron concerns and complaints, aiming for effective conflict resolution. Manage crowd control and ensure prompt and efficient seating. Confirm theater readiness and communicate with relevant staff before performances. Ensure smooth patron exit and coordinate post-performance clean-up. Ensure safety regulations are followed, including fire safety, emergency exits, and crowd control. Maintain clear communication with all departments and report any incidents to the Operations Manager.
Qualities Desired:
Proven experience in customer service, preferably in a theater or entertainment venue. Strong leadership and team management skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Ability to problem-solve and remain calm under pressure. Knowledge of safety regulations and crowd management. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience as a House Manager, Front-of-House Manager, or similar role in a theatre or performing arts setting.
Schedule:
