Job Description

Job Summary Manages the daily operations of the housekeeping department to ensure offices, patient/guest rooms, and other specified areas are kept in a clean and orderly condition. Responsible for all departmental policies and procedures. Functions as a working manager.
Essential Job Functions Working Manager :
Provides housekeeping duties in accordance with the housekeeping job description. (see job description on the P drive, Human Resources, job descriptions, Housekeeping) and in conjunction with those duties is responsible for regular shifts in all cleaning areas and be familiar with the cleaning requirements for all areas.
HR Functions :
Provides managerial leadership for housekeeping staff. Responsible for daily inspections of cleaning including extra cleaning performed by staff. Responsible for HR functions including coaching, counseling, timecard and time off approvals, performance reviews, disciplinary actions and hiring.
Staffing:
Manager is responsible for ensuring adequate and appropriate staffing for the department. Makes the monthly work schedule, on call calendars, and holiday/time off scheduling. Totals laundry LBS and laundry sheets. Conducts monthly staff meetings. Responsible for tracking and verifying staff participation in mandatory training and achievement of basic personal competency in the Time and Attendance system. Responsible for the ordering of cleaning supplies, linens, and all other supplies for the department. Manager will also be responsible for education, deep cleaning schedules, infection control issues, scheduling shifts, and other items determined by supervisor. Manager will attend all required meetings. Is the liaison with nursing supervisor for Infection Control. Maintains and enforces all hospital and department policies and procedures. Sewing and marking are to be done as needed. Participate in mandatory training on EHR and UKG (Time & Attendance) and demonstrate basic competency in the functions applicable to their role. Department managers and directors are responsible for participation in SGH's PI program, including development and review of internal department quality monitors, tracking and reporting quarterly PI findings in a timely manner, reporting all patient quality issues to Risk Manager and facilitating on-going education for staff regarding their role in the PI process. Position requires access to highly confidential information. Performs other duties as assigned. High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Management and experience in housekeeping preferred. Basic computer skills are necessary. Skills/Competencies Excellent communication skills, ability to listen and be empathetic. Physical Requirements Must be able to maintain a standing and/or sitting position. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Frequent physical activity, including walking, lifting, bending, stooping, crouching, pulling, and pushing. All sensory skills are required including speech, vision, touch, smell, and hearing Working conditions will include exposure to heat, cold, dusty and dirty conditions.
