Director of Housekeeping
GENERAL PURPOSE
In coordination with the Director of Housekeeping, supervises the operations of the housekeeping staff promoting a safe environment and quality service to achieve maximum guest satisfaction, protection of assets and minimal expenses.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide clear direction in assigning and instruction housekeeping and public space staff in details of work. Plan, organize and monitor staff activities to ensure compliance with quality assurance standards set by hotel, which requires continuous visual inspection of guest rooms and public space areas including restaurants, lounges, meeting rooms, etc. Distribute and delegate workload to guarantee maximum production and guest satisfaction with minimum outlay of expenses in terms of labor and materials. Monitor house count and make staffing adjustments accordingly. Ensure proper usage of chemicals and cleaning supplies by monitoring usage, providing complete training for employees, and ensuring proper labeling of hazardous supplies in accordance with hotel hazardous communication program. Evaluate condition of furniture, fixtures, décor, etc. Make recommendations and assist in the coordination of rehab projects. Communicate both verbally and in writing to provide clear direction to staff. Respond to guest requests, concerns and problems to ensure guest satisfaction. Assist Director of Housekeeping with time management of employees. Communicate daily of Director of Housekeeping on employee concerns, projects, daily assignments, and scheduling needs. With the consultation of Director of Housekeeping, provide corrective feedback to housekeeping employees. Meet weekly with Director of Housekeeping for consultation and 1:1 supervision. Lead by example by communicating and behaving in a professional manner. Assist in ensuring all housekeeping employees are prepared for their shifts daily including wearing their uniforms. Perform special projects and other responsibilities as assigned. Participate in hotel committees and task force assignments. Other duties as assigned by management.
SUPERVISORY DUTIES
Assist in the direct supervision of all housekeeping team members, 10-35 employees
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
2 years of relevant experience required with 1 year of which in a supervisor role; preferably in a large hotel or comparable facility. Knowledge of proper cleaning techniques, requirements, and use of equipment/machinery. Knowledge of proper chemical handling. Ability to demonstrate active listening, giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to under the points being made, asking question as appropriate and not interrupting at inappropriate times. Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services and evaluation of customer satisfaction. Ability to listen effectively, to speak and write English clearly. Thorough organization and time management skills to complete tasks efficiently and timely. Keen attention to detail.
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT
Endure various physical movements; must be able to lift at least 50 pounds. Must be able to push/pull up to 100 pounds. Must be able to stand and exert well placed mobility for up to 8 hours. Must be able to kneel, squat, bend, stoop and twist to perform job duties. Adequately communicate with management and co-workers.
