Job Description
Position Summary A healthcare organization is seeking an experienced Environmental Services Manager to oversee housekeeping, janitorial, and sanitation operations within a hospital setting. This leadership role is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and compliant environment for patients, visitors, and staff while managing departmental operations, budgets, staffing, and regulatory standards. The Environmental Services Manager will lead daily EVS operations, drive infection prevention initiatives, ensure regulatory compliance, and collaborate with clinical and operational departments to support exceptional patient care and facility cleanliness standards. Key Responsibilities Lead and supervise Environmental Services staff, including hiring, onboarding, scheduling, coaching, training, and performance management Develop and maintain staffing schedules to ensure operational coverage and efficiency Establish and enforce cleaning, sanitation, and infection prevention standards in compliance with healthcare regulations and hospital policies Manage departmental budgeting, supply utilization, inventory control, and equipment maintenance Conduct routine inspections of patient rooms, public areas, and support spaces to ensure cleanliness and quality standards are maintained Collaborate with nursing, facilities, infection prevention, and hospital leadership to support operational needs and patient safety initiatives Oversee the proper handling and disposal of hazardous and biohazardous materials in accordance with OSHA and regulatory guidelines Investigate and resolve service concerns, complaints, and operational issues promptly and professionally Monitor departmental performance metrics and prepare operational reports for leadership review Lead staff meetings, safety training, and educational initiatives to promote continuous improvement and accountability Evaluate new products, technologies, and cleaning methods to improve efficiency and service quality Respond to emergency situations and support facility safety procedures as needed Assist with frontline Environmental Services responsibilities when operationally necessary Qualifications Required High school diploma or equivalent Minimum of 5 years of Environmental Services leadership experience, preferably in a healthcare or hospital environment Strong knowledge of healthcare cleaning standards, sanitation procedures, infection control practices, and workplace safety regulations Experience with budgeting, inventory management, and departmental operations Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills Ability to lead diverse teams in a fast-paced healthcare environment Preferred Associate degree or higher Prior hospital Environmental Services management experience strongly preferred Work Environment & Physical Requirements Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, pushing, and pulling throughout the workday Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds regularly Exposure to cleaning chemicals, biohazard materials, bodily fluids, odors, noise, and varying environmental conditions May require evening, weekend, holiday, or emergency coverage as operational needs arise OSHA Category I exposure potential Leadership & Operational Scope Direct supervision of Environmental Services staff Responsible for employee performance management, training, scheduling, mentoring, and departmental operational planning Works collaboratively with hospital leadership, clinical departments, and support services to maintain high standards of cleanliness, safety, and patient satisfaction
