A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Job Description

NAPERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs daily custodial operations to include, but is not limited to:- Keeps waste-baskets empty and clean. Empties large trash receptacles daily (inside and outside of buildings)
- Sweeps, mops, wet-washes and vacuums floors in halls, stairways, restrooms, classrooms (band, gym, cafeteria, and office areas included)
- Cleans and disinfects toilet floors daily and cleans all sanitary fixtures. Replace tissue and paper products as needed.
- Cleans water fountains.
- Dusts furniture and fixtures.
- Keeps restrooms clean and stocked with necessary supplies.
- Takes appropriate action to clean special stains and spills.
- Cleans windows (entrances) daily and all others at least twice a year.
- Reports repairs needed or any damage to school property immediately to the principal.
- Keeps the building and premises including sidewalks, driveways and play areas neat and clean at all times.
- Regulates heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to insure efficient usage of fuel, water, and electricity.
- Assumes responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day and for determining, before leaving, that all doors and windows are secure, and all lights, except those left on for specific reasons, are turned off.
- Checks daily to ensure that all exit doors are open, and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of occupancy.
- Prepares and uses chemical solutions in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
- Keeps an inventory of supplies on hand and requests needed replacements weekly.
- Follow universal precautions (as needed).
- Maintain confidentiality of school system related business.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the principal.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
EVALUATION:
Nine-month, ten-month, eleven-month or twelve- month position in accordance with the Board's salary schedule. Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the State Department of Education and/or Tarrant city Board of Education policy on evaluation of certified personnel. This is a non-exempt position.Benefits
