A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Job Description
Building Custodians clean and maintain public buildings, structures, and grounds. Work involves the execution of specific rules, regulations, or procedures and is generally performed in accordance with established procedures, but specific instructions may be given on unusual jobs or problems. The Custodian uses initiative in carrying out recurring assignments independently without specific instructions. Building Custodians follow established standards of cleanliness and adherence to instructions. The Building Custodian receives continuing or individual assignments from the supervisor generally indicating work to be done, limitations, quality and quantity expected, deadlines, and priority of assignments.
Cleans bathrooms using a variety of cleaning chemicals and equipment to keep the restrooms clean and sanitary for the employees and visitors. Maintains building appearance by cleaning building areas using cleaning supplies and equipment to keep the building in a clean and orderly condition. Cleans floors and stairwells using brooms, mops, vacuums, buffers, and other cleaning supplies and equipment in order to maintain the cleanliness of the facility. Performs routine maintenance activities by making minor repairs such as replacing light bulbs, repairing furniture and moving furniture in order to ensure the safe operation of the facility. Manages stockroom supplies and equipment by monitoring, storing, and issuing supplies and equipment needed to clean and maintain facilities. Reporting any issues at the facilities to the supervisor. Ensure that proper signage is out when cleaning. Ensure the cleanliness of Park & Recreation facilities including but not limited to Athletic Center, mall bathrooms, athletic field bathrooms, and gym bathrooms. Inventory supplies to make sure there are proper supplies on hand to meet the cleaning needs of each location. Be able to work independently. Experience in janitorial service using cleaning chemicals. Experience in janitorial service using basic floor maintenance equipment. Preferred Qualifications OSHA Training in subjects such as blood borne pathogens and/or safety.
