To perform assigned custodial duties for schools, facilities, and grounds within the school system and maintain a clean, safe, and attractive educational environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Cleans school buildings, facilities, and grounds on a daily or as-assigned basis, including dusting furniture; emptying trash; sweeping/mopping hard surface floors; vacuuming carpets; cleaning windows; washing walls, woodwork, lockers, and chalkboards; polishing surfaces; wiping handrails; cleaning and sanitizing restrooms/locker rooms; cleaning bodily fluids resulting from sickness/injury; sweeping/washing walkways, driveways, parking areas, and stairwells; and other tasks as assigned and/or scheduled. Prepares school buildings and facilities for daily operation, including opening doors, checking locks, cleaning hallways and sidewalks, etc., at the beginning and end of each school day or throughout the day as needed. Identifies and addresses potential problems and/or hazards in and around work areas (i.e., classrooms, offices, grounds, halls, restrooms, cafeteria, etc) to prevent possible injuries and ensure site cleanliness and safety. Locks and ensure buildings, facilities, and grounds (i.e., doors, gates, alarms, lights, etc.) to minimize property damages, loss and liability. Operates security systems and responds to immediate custodial, operational, and/or safety alarms and concerns, including facility damage, vandalism, etc.; notifies the school Principal and other staff as appropriate. Observes and reports needed repairs for equipment, furniture, and other items to the school Principal. Completes minor in-school or emergency repairs; performs regular maintenance on custodial tools and equipment, school furniture, and fixtures to ensure proper functionality and usability as needed. Replenish classroom and restroom supplies daily or as needed or requested. Performs special project work as directed (e.g., stripping and refinishing floors, moving and arranging furniture, and other tasks assigned). Maintains an organized work space to ensure all items are available at the point and time of need; recommends re-ordering of custodial supplies and equipment to the school Principal or other staff as appropriate. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Qualifications (minimum education, licensure, skills, and/or experience): Must demonstrate aptitude or competence for successful fulfillment of assigned responsibilities Experience with custodial work preferred
